Boston
Boston founder Tom Scholz has been given permission to sue the widow of late bandmate Brad Delp for alleged defamatory remarks she made in a newspaper interview.

The guitarist's original defamation lawsuits against Micki Delp and the Boston Herald were thrown out in 2011 and earlier this year (13), respectively, but Scholz's case against the wife of his late pal was reinstated by the Massachusetts Appeals Court on Tuesday (14May13).

In his suit, Scholz claims that remarks Micki Delp made to the Herald about her husband's 2007 suicide could be construed as blaming the guitarist for his dea...

Boston Star Sues Newspaper For Blaming Him For Brad Delp's Suicide

March 20th, 2010 4:15pm EDT
Boston
Boston star Tom Scholz is suing the Boston Herald newspaper and two columnists for defamation after they suggested he was partly responsible for late bandmate Brad Delp's 2007 suicide.

Scholz took offence to Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa's insinuations in their Inside Track column following the Delp tragedy.

One article, headlined 'Pal's Snub Made Delp Do It: Boston Rocker's Ex-wife Speaks', suggested Delp committed suicide after Scholz fired his close friend Fran Cosmo from the Boston touring line-up.

They wrote that Delp's ex-wife, Micki, blamed Scholz for the singer's death.

Writer's Viewpoint: Disputing An Iconic Song List

January 30th, 2009 2:14pm EST
Beatles
It takes a cataclysmic event to derail Overrated/Underrated from its usual Friday spot. Currently the Oscars have been serving as that disruptive force, but this week interruption comes from the most unlikely source: a sports columnist from the Kansas City Star.

This is because Joe Posnanski has suggested on his blog that we stop voting artists into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and shift our focus to Hall-Worthy songs. Songs he deems "Iconic". His criterion for including a song on the ballot is that it be "A song that represents a set of beliefs or a way of life. So, I see these s...

There are a lot of reasons to celebrate the July 1 release of Night Ranger's Hole In The Sun, notably that it marks the band's first studio album in a decade and commemorates the pioneering hard rock outfit's 25th anniversary as a band. The best reason, as has been the case throughout Night Ranger's heralded career, is to celebrate the music itself.

"People will hear this record ...

AARP Tour: Bands That Shouldn't Be Touring Anymore

June 24th, 2008 10:25am EDT
Steely Dan
Sometimes it seems like a band just doesn't know when to quit. Just imagine how many times you've heard some classic rock DJ try to pawn off front row tickets to Steely Dan, or how many advertisements you've seen for a free REO Speedwagon show at the naval base followed by fireworks and the Glen Hill retirement community brass band. While I'll admit that the willingness of these groups to play every major outdoor amphitheater each summer showcases their tenacity, it doesn't exactly work wonders for their dignity. After a while, playing to half-empty audiences of drunken suburbanites has to ...
