Does James Blunt Need An Artistic Makeover?

November 11th, 2013 2:18pm EST
James Blunt
As a music lover, I tend to enjoy artists who possess a distinctive voice – call me a weirdo (I like to think I’m just ‘eclectic’).  That said, I also understand that a uniquely voiced artist often causes divisiveness among music listeners. British singer/songwriter James Blunt is no different.  While characterizing Blunt’s high-pitched tenor as being ‘left-field’ as say Macy Gray would be quite an overstatement, Blunt definitely sports a unique sound.  Given Blunt’s vocal contrasts to other artists, one might expect his music and style to showcase and highlight such.  Well four albums in  ...

May 25th, 2013 12:06pm EDT
Bow Wow
Spring is finally in full swing, and that means that it’s prime season for driving around with the windows in your car down, blasting whatever music you enjoy playing loudly and annoying others with. There are a few songs that you should avoid playing while the windows are down at all costs, however:

10. “Bow Wow” Lil Bow Wow

Apparently, Lil’ Bow Wow is just Bow Wow now. Well, hopefully when he lost the Lil’ moniker, he also lost this song with it. Easily one of the worst rap songs ever, even considering the fact that it was sung by a child, this song should not be played by anyone anyw...

Starpulse Asks: Where Have All the Songwriters Gone?

October 26th, 2007 3:49pm EDT

Pop tunesmiths are a baker's dozen. After the late-90s surge of uber song doctors such as Desmond Child and Diane Warren (known for that Titanic song), Justin Timberlake found his "SexyBack" and his own writing voice following years of whistling Max Martin dixie. Heck, even Britney Spears penned tunes from her Britney effort. (This year's tepid train wreck "Blackout" features a pitiful two songs co-written by the popstar.)

But what goes around comes around. A mere glance at the contemporary pop offerings finds only a chapbook of singer-songwriters. Ms. Warren's cheeseball balladry has ...
