Lady Gaga is in the running for an Oscar after she was named among the nominees for the coveted Best Song prize.

The pop superstar's duet with Elton John, Hello Hello, from the Rocket Man's Gnomeo & Juliet movie, has been included in a long list of 39 songs in competition for gold at the 2012 Academy Awards.

The veteran MC, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, died last week after collapsing outside his home in Beverly Hills, California. He was 44.

Thousands of fans mourned Heavy D's passing at a public memorial on Thursday and celebrities from the worlds of hip-hop and Hollywood gathered in Mount Vermont on Friday to bid farewell to the star.

Mary J. Blige and Sean 'Diddy' Combs are expected to be among the mourners when rapper Heavy D is laid to rest in New York next week.

A private funeral has been planned for the 44 year old who died on Tuesday. There will be a public viewing of the rap star's body for fans on November 17, according to reports.

The hip-hop star, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, was found unconscious outside his home in Beverly Hills, California on Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles an hour later.

There were no obvious signs of foul play.

Russell Brand has joined the cast of movie musical Rock Of Ages following months of speculation.

The British funnyman was trying to schedule the role of Lonny around his summer plans with wife Katy Perry and now it appears he's sorted out the logistics.

He'll join Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige among the supporting cast of the film.

Little-known Mexican actor Diego Boneta was announced as the star of the project last week.
