56th Annual Grammy Award Predictions
Grammy predictions for Record of the year, Album of the year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards Broadcast takes place on Sunday, January 26th. Previously, following the announcements of the nominations, I made predictions in regards to who I thought would walk out with statues. After sitting on it a while, it is time to make one last set of predictions before Sunday’s broadcast. Here goes nothing! Picks are in bold.

First things first, let’s look at the BIG FOUR predictions

1) Record of the Year

“Get Lucky,” Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams & Nile Rod...

James Blake and Chance The Rapper to live and work together

January 10th, 2014 3:10am EST
James Blake
British singer/songwriter James Blake and Chance The Rapper are planning to move in together in Los Angeles so they can work on new music.

The pair previously teamed up to record a remix of Blake's song Life Round Here and now Chance The Rapper reveals they will be holing themselves up in a new house to come up with more collaborations with other artists.

And the Chicago, Illinois native is convinced bunking with Blake will be a lot of fun.

He tells NME, "I've never lived anywhere other than this house, the one I grew up in in Chicago. It will probably be like being on vacation for the f...

The 51 Best Albums Of 2013 - What Made Your List?

December 30th, 2013 6:00pm EST
Daft Punk
Ranking the very best albums of any year is incredibly difficult; there are always misses. 2013 was filled with some triumphant musical moments, though not all of their parent albums were necessarily ‘worthy’ of being considered the best of the year. Because of various factors, this list has its surprises and like any album reviewed, its triumphs and flaws. One thing’s for sure – the top ten to fifteen albums are pretty close to the cream of the crop from my perspective. Here are the 50 (+1) best albums of 2013!

1) Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

Thoughts On The 56th Annual Grammy Nominations

December 9th, 2013 8:50pm EST
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Grammys are like a musician’s Super Bowl, even if the nominations and victorious artists are flawed.  I won’t lie to you, I complain every year that someone won a Grammy that didn’t deserve it while someone else was snubbed. Just last year, during the 55th Annual Grammys, I lobbied hard for Frank Ocean (looking back, I have reservations now) while Mumford & Sons walked out with the Album of the Year trophy.  The year that Taylor Swift won for Fearless, my girl Beyoncé was on a roll until the coveted Album of the Year award was read.  You get my position though! This year,  I find myself...

2013 Album Playlist: Favorites, Least Favorites, and Honorable Mentions - Part 1

October 11th, 2013 9:15pm EDT
The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2
As I look over my 2013 playlist from my iPod, I realize I have listened to numerous albums this year.  In fact, the amount of music that my ears have consumed and my pen has analyzed is pretty scary…and I still missed lots of albums! SMH! Some were special, some made me cringe, and some fell somewhere in between the two extremes.  As difficult as it was, as of October 7, 2013, I have compiled a list housing my favorites, least favorites, and honorable mentions.  I’m almost certain I’ve slighted someone and I’m sure there will be continual revisions, but for now, here’s what you should’ve sp...

The 1975
The amount of excellent music releases this year has been staggering, and it’s been almost impossible to figure out what music to get and what to skip. So, here is a list of the twenty most essential records of the year so far:

Killer Mike and El-P unite after individually putting out two of the best hip-hop releases of last year. The results: one of the most focused, fun, and aggressive hip-hop albums of 2013.

Jon Hopkins - “Immunity”

Saying that something is a journey in musical form may be an antiquated means of describing ...

Review 'Overgrown': James Blake Delivers Solid Second Record

April 9th, 2013 8:10am EDT
James Blake
There was cause for concern when James Blake announced that his second album was titled "Overgrown." Blake has always been famous for his sparse sound, with layers of sound existing so far apart that the distance can practically be measured with a yard stick. Despite the album title, though, Blake has retained his signature sound, and only really minimally expands on it here; delivering a very solid second record that may lack surprises, but makes up for it in terms of overall sound quality.

Blake has always straddled the lines between dubstep and R&B, and his fragile voice brings to mind ...

Adele Pulls Out Of Mercury Music Prize Performance

September 6th, 2011 5:45pm EDT
Adele
Adele has been forced to pull out of a planned performance at the Mercury Music Prize announcement ceremony on Tuesday night due to illness.

A chest infection prompted the British soul sensation to cancel the start of her U.K. tour in Plymouth on Sunday, and she also postponed a show in Bournemouth on Monday.

And now she has scrapped plans to perform at the awards ceremony, which she was the favorite to win for her hit album "21." (She lost)

Adele will still attend the ceremony in London.

Her cancellation is a big blow for Mercury Music Prize organizers, who were hoping all 11 shortlist...
