Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Biography

Birth Place: San Francisco, California, USA
Years Active: 1998–present
Genres: Alternative Rock, Garage Rock Revival, Neo-psychedelia, Hard Rock, Shoegaze, Post-punk Revival, Americana

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, now based in Los Angeles. BRMC is known for their garage rock, blues, folk revival, neo-psychedelia sound.

“B.R.M.C.,” their self-titled debut album, was released on Virgin Records in 2001. It reached #25 on the U.K. Albums chart. They followed in 2003 with, “Take Them On, On Your Own,” featuring a darker, harder rock sound than their debut album. Containing more politically themed lyrics, the album reached #3 in the United Kingdom and #47 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.

Their third studio album, “Howl,” was released in 2005. While still staying true to their origins this album demonstrated maturity as a band, as “Howl” infused blues, country, and gospel throughout, stemming from their love of Americana less apparent in their 2001 and 2003 releases. The album peaked at #90 on the Billboard 200 and #14 on the U.K. Albums chart.

“Baby 81,” their fourth studio album, was released in 2007 and debuted at #46 on the Billboard 200, while reaching #15 on the U.K. Albums chart. The album featured a harder, rawer sound compared with their previous record “Howl.”

In 2008 they issued, “The Effects of 333,” their first album released independently released on their Abstract Dragon label. The album was completely instrumental and failed to chart. “Beat the Devil's Tattoo,” their sixth album and second on their Abstract Dragon label, was released in 2010. It reached #58 on the Billboard 200 and U.K. Albums charts.
