Genres: Blues, Soul

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears is a blues band influenced by Howlin' Wolf and James Brown. It was formed in Austin, Texas in 2007. While working at a pawn shop in Austin, Lewis first picked up the guitar. For the next few years, he performed around Austin at open mic nights and various weekly gigs with his blues trio. The Honeybears formed after Zach Ernst, a member of the University of Texas Music and Entertainment Committee, booked Lewis to open for Little Richard at the University of Texas' annual festival Forty Acres Fest.

The band signed to Lost Highway Records in 2008. Following the signing Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears released a self-titled four song EP in January 2009.

Their debut album, “Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!,” was released in March 2009. The album was produced by Spoon's drummer Jim Eno. It reached #4 on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart.

Their second studio album, “Scandalous,” was released in 2011 on Lost Highway and again featured production from Jim Eno.
