Celebrities That Turn 50 In 2015
Simple mathematics indicate that 50 years ago would make it the year of 1965. That year was a unique and troublesome time in the world as the Vietnam war really began to escalate - as well as the civil rights movement. The Counter culture began to awake as skirts got much shorter and men started to grow their hair a bit longer.

Gas was a mere 31 cents per gallon and the average rent was $118 per month.

In pop culture “The Sound of Music” was released, the Beatles played their famous live concert at Shea Stadium and the Grateful Dead played their first concert in San Francisco – just to na...

Bjork has come up with a way to help jailed Russian feminist rockers Pussy Riot - t-shirts! The Icelandic pop star is selling the clothing to aid the band with their legal bills.

Earlier this month, three members of the all-girl punk band were convicted on hooliganism charges for performing a protest song against Russian President Vladimir Putin in a Moscow church in February.

Despite a public outcry and calls from stars like Madonna, Paul McCartney and Bjork to let the girls go free, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich were each sentenced to two years in pri...

May 10th, 2012 5:59pm EDT
Icelandic pop star Bjork is aiming to be back on stage in mid-June after canceling a string of concerts due to ongoing vocal issues.

Music Talk: The Simple Success Of Simple Plan

November 15th, 2011 11:00am EST
Simple Plan
The secret to Simple Plan's success is not all that complicated. If you ask guitarist Sebastien Lefebvre, it really does just come down to something as - ahem - simple as the music.

"We started out, [when] we were opening for other bands, it was just about getting out on stage and having fun," he told me as the band was preparing for last night's show at the SWU Festival in Sao Paolo, Brazil. "Now, obviously, we've been lucky enough to have a few albums."

The Canadian pop-punk band is currently on tour in support of their fourth studio album, Get Your Heart On! The disc is not only catc...

The Most Outrageous Fashion Fails In Oscar History (Video)

February 24th, 2011 11:15am EST
Remember this look? This is what Bjork wore to the 2001 Oscars: a "swan dress." It's just the start of the list of fashion fails in Oscar history. Most Hollywood stars use the Oscars to show off the latest in fashion from their favorite designers, but some take it too far.

Only a year before Bjork's look, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker decided to show up in drag, wearing the outfits Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow wore to previous award shows. However, they're off the list because they looked bad on purpose!

Watch the video below for the history of Oscar fashion fails:

She says, "Anyone will be allowed to sing. And we inte...

'American Idol' Recap: Mostly Mediocre & A Bit Karaoke

March 26th, 2009 8:17am EDT
American Idol
Random Thoughts While Waiting for American Idol to Start:

-Paula Abdul is doing her best Bjork dress impression tonight.

-That still image of Alexis Grace makes her look like a drag queen mannequin. Isn't it bad enough to vote her off prematurely? You had to show that picture?

-Despite the off-the-wall outfit choice, tonight Paula clearly isn't stoned. That's two weeks in a row! How strange.

-What a great way to kill time! Introduce the top ten again after bringing them out during the cold open.

-Wait. Detroit was once a thriving mecca? When did Motown ...

Are The Academy Awards Out of Touch With Modern Audiences?

February 20th, 2009 9:18am EST
Academy Awards
Sunday, February 22, 2009, will mark the 81st Annual Academy Awards, but does anyone really care? Last year's telecast was one of the lowest rated in history, pulling in only 31.76 million viewers despite it being the 80th celebration of Oscar. This year producers are trying to reverse the trend. Yet it seems the more they try to fix the ratings slump, the more critics worry that the Oscars are simply out of touch with modern audiences.

It's not just young viewers who have moved on to more enjoyable awards shows like MTV and People's Choice. Academy members over the age of 60, who make...

No Costume Necessary: Stars With Freaky Everyday Looks

October 29th, 2008 10:05am EDT
Jocelyn Wildenstein
Marilyn Manson: Powdery white skin. Jet-black hair. No smile on his crimson lips or in his smoky, contact-lensed eyes. Proud of his freak show persona and wearing alienation like a badge of honor, musician and artist Marilyn Manson (nee Brian Warner) has an everyday look fit for a séance. Though he caused the stir when he burst onto the music scene in the 90's, his signature skinny black suits have now been co-opted by Emo kids and Pete Wentz has him beat when it comes to eyeliner. Even if his ghoulish look no longer shocks, no question the man is haunted: His 1997 autobiography was entitl...

The Cineplexes Are Alive With The Sound Of Music: The Return Of The Movie Musical

May 6th, 2008 8:30am EDT
On April 22's episode of American Idol, renowned composer and lyricist Andrew Lloyd Weber stood patiently trying to teach a blank-eyed Jason Castro the song, "Memory" from one of history's most popular musicals, "Cats." Smiled the clueless Castro, "I didn't even know a cat was singing it."

Quell'horror! Is this the extent of musical theater knowledge possessed by today's generation? In fairness, Castro is from Texas, not exactly around the corner from Broadway. Perhaps had there been a big-screen version of "Cats," more people under the age of 30 would be hip to the magic and majesty...

Lots Of Buzz Over The Ting Tings; Debut Album Due June 3

April 27th, 2008 11:30am EDT
The Ting Tings
Hailing from Salford, Manchester, England, The Ting Tings are: Jules De Martino (drums, vocals) and Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drum). The band formed in 2006 when Jules and Katie began performing their infectious lo-fi DIY high-spirited sounds at private parties at the Islington Mill, a disused cotton mill where the band lives with lots of other artists (painters, photographers, underground filmmakers, etc).

For the duo's recent limited edition UK single, "Great DJ," a Single of the Week in the NME, The Ting Tings recycled old 7" singles, inverted the covers and relabeled the ...

Alanis Morissette

March 24th, 2008 6:30pm EDT
A Fine Frenzy
Alison Sudol inhabits a vivid imaginary world populated by siren songs and sailors, sightless creatures and fragile fallen eagles, a place where almost lovers and hopeless dreams are bid a melancholy musical farewell.

And on One Cell in the Sea, Sudol allows the listener inside that often-fantastical world, revealing her inner life via songs Harp magazine praised as "fraught, haunted and beautiful."

One Cell in the Sea is the 14-song debut from A Fine Frenzy, the lineup fronted by 22- year-old singer/pianist Sudol. While A Fine Frenzy's songs are ethereal, the musical and ly...

These girls in a coma took over as the opening act for the remainder of Morrissey's U.S. tour last fall and the entire European leg after that. This coveted gig is only a dream for most bands.
