Stars Remember Late Protest Singer Pete Seeger
Stars including Tom Morello, Tony Bennett, Steve Martin and Billy Bragg have paid tribute to folk icon and political activist Pete Seeger, who died on Monday.

The 94-year-old musician passed away in New York City after a short illness, and his grandson, Kitama Cahill-Jackson, subsequently revealed the star appeared to have been in good health before he fell ill last week.

Sir Paul McCartney thrilled students at a performing arts school in Queens, New York on Wednesday (09Oct13) when he showed up unannounced to play a 13-song set.

Almost 400 students crammed into the Frank Sinatra School for the Arts' auditorium to check out a billed "special guest" and were left stunned when the former Beatle and his band greeted them.

McCartney performed three tracks from his upcoming new album, titled New, and classics from his back catalogue, including the Beatles hits Eight Days a Week and Hey Jude, which opened and closed the 90-minute set.

Soul star Stevie Wonder is revamping his classic tunes for a new orchestral album he is working on with songwriting pal David Foster.

The singer is hoping to release When the World Began next year (14) after recording tracks with a symphony orchestra in London.

The project will feature revamped hits, rarities and new songs.

Veteran crooner Tony Bennett and R&B star John Legend were feted for their tireless efforts to improve the lives of children at a charity gala in New York on Tuesday (11Jun13).

Bennett was handed the Samsung Hope for Children Lifetime Ambassador Award for his work with Exploring the Arts, a nonprofit organisation founded by the singer and his wife, Susan Benedetto in 1999.

Rapper Snoop Lion has thrown his support behind Tony Bennett's anti-gun campaign by filming an ad for the crooner's Voices Against Violence organisation.

The singer founded the initiative to encourage Americans to use their voice for good and call on members of Congress to pass new safety laws in a bid to save lives, and Snoop Lion, formerly known as Snoop Dogg, has now added his name to the cause in an online promotional video, in which he urges fans to contact their local leaders to make a difference.

Famed music producer Phil Ramone has died at the age of 79. The producer and sound engineer, who worked with stars including Ray Charles, Billy Joel and Barbra Streisand, passed away on Saturday in New York City.

Crooner Tony Bennett has scored his first U.S. number one album at the age of 85.

The veteran's "Duets II" release has rocketed to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, thanks in part to much-publicised collaborations with Lady Gaga and the late Amy Winehouse, making Bennett the oldest living act to reach the top spot - beating Bob Dylan's two-year-old record.

Just last week, Bennett became the oldest living artist to score a Billboard Hot 100 hit when his "Body & Soul" duet with Winehouse debuted at 87. His album shot to number one with 179,000 sales.

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" songwriter Hugh Martin has died. He was 96.

Martin is best known for composing the score to the 1944 musical Meet Me In St. Louis, in which Judy Garland famously performs the song that became a seasonal classic. Martin and songwriting partner Ralph Blane received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for writing the film's "The Trolley Song."

Veteran crooner Tony Bennett is to accept a lifetime achievement honor at the 2010 Nordoff-Robbins Silver Clef Awards.
