Rocker Beck is to re-release his break-out 1996 album Odelay with a handful of rare new tracks. The new tunes feature two never-before-released tracks from the original sessions, a soundtrack contribution, and 16 B-sides and compilation tracks.

The original album was recently ranked among Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.

Rock duo The White Stripes' recent collaboration with Beck was a relaxed affair - the songs were recorded in his living-room.

The stars teamed up to tape three new songs - "We Can't Afford To Look This Cheap," "Cash Grab Complications On The Matter" and "It's My Fault For Being Famous, Honey" - for the B-sides of three colored vinyl singles of The White Stripes track Conquest, which will be released on December 18.

Rocker Beck has been accused of driving a New York artist to a drug-induced death after backing out of a movie project they had planned together.

Theresa Duncan told friends she and Beck had discussed working on a film she had written entitled Alice Underground - about two schoolgirls who kidnap a rock star after he told them he wanted to leave the Church of Scientology. Scientologist Beck was to play the protagonist.

Rock duo The White Stripes have added a third member in the shape of Beck for a special Christmas release. Three colored vinyl singles will hit stores on December 18, each featuring the track "Conquest" and a new song co-produced by Beck.

The B-sides are "We Can't Afford to Look This Cheap," "Cash Grab Complications On The Matter" and "It's My Fault For Being Famous, Honey." They'll appear on red, white and black vinyl singles.

Beck Buys Los Angeles Mansion

Rocker Beck has purchased a $7 million mansion in west Los Angeles. The singer and his actress wife Marissa Ribisi, with whom he has two children, have yet to move into the eight-bedroom, five-bathroom property, which was built in 1924.

The house was redesigned and updated just prior to Beck's purchase, although the 37-year-old has since done some redesigning of his own.

Sonic Youth are following in the footsteps of Paul McCartney by releasing a compilation album on coffee shop chain Starbucks' new Hear Music label. A former drummer for Beck has been hired to join reformed Australian group Crowded House.

Matt Sherrod was selected for the coveted role after band members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour held dozens of auditions in Australia, the US and the UK.
