Beastie Boys' Mike D To Direct Los Angeles Art Festival

Beastie Boys star Mike Diamond has been named the artistic director of a new cultural festival in Los Angeles.

The hip-hop star, aka Mike D, has been given the task of overseeing the Transmission LA: AV Club event, which begins on April 19th.

The festival, which was first launched in Germany last year, is slated to feature pop-up art galleries and performances by a number of local musicians, and Mike D has some fixed ideas about his latest venture.

He tells the Wall Street Journal, "I micro control many things in my life and I just want this to be fun filled with experimental moments....

Guns N' Roses, The Beastie Boys, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have all won coveted places in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The bands led the shortlist to join the famed Cleveland, Ohio museum in April, and they have now been announced as the official 2012 inductees along with late singer/songwriter Laura Nyro, Donovan, and the various incarnations of British band The Small Faces/The Faces.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Donna Summer, and Rufus with Chaka Khan were among the acts who missed out on the honor.

The induction ceremony will take place on April 14th.

The Beastie Boys are releasing replicas of their action figure alter-egos which featured in the band's video for Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win.

The rappers were depicted as miniature toys in the action-packed video directed by Spike Jonze, and now fans will be able to get their hands on their very own versions, which are now on sale via the trio's website.

The special edition figures will come with a number of outfits and accessories, as well as a deluxe copy of their Greatest Hits.

The rap trio's miniatures fight off military attacks, zombies and sharks in the short film which accompanies Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win, which also features the action figure likeness of singer/songwriter Santigold, who appears on the track.

The Beastie Boys are teaming up with hotshot director Spike Jonze again for a new video featuring their action figures.

Jonze, who directed Beastie Boys' iconic Sabotage and Sure Shot promos, has signed on to make Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win with the trio.

The film will be both a short and an "epic length" video, according to the Beastie Boys website, and the band is calling the promo "an explicit action adventure spectacular."

Beastie Boys star Adam Horovitz has ruled out any tour plans to promote their new album until rapper Adam Yauch has fully recovered from cancer.

Yauch, aka MCA, has been undergoing treatment since July 2009, when doctors found a tumor in his parotid gland.

He has also adopted a strict vegan diet and turned to ancient Chinese medicine to help him beat the disease, and although his prognosis is good, Horovitz admits the band is putting off any live dates following the release of "Hot Sauce Committee Part Two" until Yauch's back to full health.

An auction of exclusive personal items and memorabilia donated by EMI’s family of artists and songwriters has raised $940,000 in funds to help the Red Cross support people affected by last month’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
