The former "American Idol" star checked into Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville on Monday at approximately 8:55 p.m. local time and was treated for a "medication overdose."

NEW YORK (AP) - Performing on Broadway apparently agrees with Fantasia. The former ''American Idol'' alum has extended her stay in ''The Color Purple,'' the hit musical based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the show's producers announced Thursday.
