'Lost' Syd Barrett Songs To Be Released

Pink Floyd are planning to release several unheard songs by legendary late rocker Syd Barrett as part of a trawl through the band's back catalogue.

The rockers have opened their vaults and will release a haul of rare material next month, including live recordings, demos, and a 'work-in-progress' mix of their classic album, The Dark Side of the Moon.

Now, drummer Nick Mason has revealed the band is planning a similar project featuring their first two albums - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets - which will feature never-released tracks by reclusive founder member B...

Syd Barrett To Be Remembered In Hometown

The life of late Pink Floyd star Syd Barrett will be commemorated in his English hometown later this year.

The guitarist will be honored in a series of events in Cambridge, England including a stage show and art exhibition. The City Wakes theater production has been billed as the "first official tribute" to Barrett and will feature new versions of some of the star's songs.

Cambridge will also see a display of more than 60 images related to Barrett and Pink Floyd by photographer Storm Thorgerson.

Barrett died aged 60 in 2006 from complications arising from diabetes.

Pink Floyd star David Gilmour deeply regrets not trying harder to visit his late friend Syd Barrett before his death last year and wishes he had been more forthright in his efforts to see the reclusive genius.

Gilmour replaced Barrett as the rock band's frontman in 1968, but the pair remained good pals until he passed away in 2006 after suffering health complications from diabetes.

And the 61-year-old is sad he never got the chance to say goodbye.

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason is pleading with his feuding bandmates David Gilmour and Roger Waters to patch up their differences - because he wants the group to continue touring to keep the band at the forefront of the industry.

Gilmour and Waters' famous rift caused the rockers to split in the 1980s, and although they both took to the stage in May for a London tribute gig for the band's late singer Syd Barrett, they played separate sets: Gilmour performing with Mason and Pink Floyd's keyboard player Richard Wright, while Waters played solo.

A love poem written by late Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett will be auctioned in his home town of Cambridge, England next week. The star, who died last year after health complications arising from diabetes, wrote the ode to a former love in 1965.

The verse, which also features an original drawing by Barrett, will be sold at the Cheffins Auction Rooms, in Cambridge on June 27.

Last month, Barrett left almost $3.3 million to his family in his will.

Late Pink Floyd rocker Syd Barrett has left almost $3.3 million to his family in his will. The star, who died last year after health complications arising from diabetes, has split the money between his four brothers and sisters.

Barrett has left $840,000 to his brother Alan, with siblings Donald, Rosemary Breen and Ruth Brown receiving $543,000 each. Sister Rosemary will also receive the proceeds from the sale of the musician's house, which fetched over $600,000.

Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968 before the band went on to gain international musical success.

Feuding former Pink Floyd band mates Roger Waters and David Gilmour failed to reunite for a tribute to the late Syd Barrett in London last night. The pair - whose famous rift caused the band to split in the 1980s - both took to the stage at the concert at the capital's Barbican Center, but performed separately.

Waters played solo, while Gilmour was joined by Pink Floyd's original drummer Nick Mason and keyboard player Rick Wright. Barrett's songs were also performed by Gorillaz front man Damon Albarn and Chrissie Hynde.

The last video of the late Syd Barrett made with Pink Floyd is to be screened on television for the first time as part of an upcoming BBC documentary series The Seven Ages Of Rock. Jughead Blues was filmed by the Central Office Of Information mainly for screening on North American, Canadian and Australian TV.

Pink Floyd rocker David Gilmour is to release a reworking of the group's first ever single Arnold Layne in memory of former band member Syd Barrett.

Barrett, who left the band in March 1968, died in July at the age of 60 from pancreatic cancer.

Gilmour, who joined the psychedelic rockers just before Barrett left, has recorded two versions of Arnold Layne and Barrett's solo track Dark Globe, in Barrett's honour.

The versions of Arnold Layne feature the vocals of David Bowie and Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright.

Rock legends Pink Floyd are planning to reform for a memorial gig in honour of late former frontman Syd Barrett, who died earlier this month.

Former Pink Floyd frontman Syd Barrett has died from complications relating to diabetes at the age of 60. The former singer had lived a reclusive life since suffering a LSD-induced breakdown at the height of the band's fame in the 1960s. He left the band in 1968, just three years after frontman Roger Waters invited him to join, and was replaced as frontman by David Gilmour.
