Asleep at the Wheel are a country music group that was formed in Paw Paw, West Virginia in 1970. To date the group has won nine Grammy Awards and released more than twenty studio albums. One of the group's most well-known hits, “The Letter That Johnny Walker Read,” peaked at #10 on the Billboard Country Charts in 1975. In 1969, Ray Benson and Lucky Oceans co-founded Asleep at the Wheel and quickly found themselves opening up for Alice Cooper and Hot Tuna in Washington, DC. By 1970 the group relocated to Oakland, California and landed a record deal with United Artists.
