Arcade Fire Sings 'Heart Of Glass' With Debbie Harry At Coachella

April 14th, 2014 8:39am EDT
Arcade Fire Sings 'Heart Of Glass' With Debbie Harry At Coachell
Arcade Fire surprised fans at Coachella on Sunday by performing with Blondie singer Debbie Harry. The band headlined the last day of the music event's first weekend.

A man wearing a suit made of shattered mirrors introduced the group, who launched their set with hit song "Reflektor." Later, frontman Win Butler introduced Harry to the stage to perform Blondie's 1978 classic track "Heart of Glass," and the crowd erupted in cheers.

Harry sang with Regine Chassagne and then did some backing vocals on "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)."

Harry told concertgoers "Cruise on, motherf**ker...

The 51 Best Albums Of 2013 - What Made Your List?

December 30th, 2013 6:00pm EST
Daft Punk
Ranking the very best albums of any year is incredibly difficult; there are always misses. 2013 was filled with some triumphant musical moments, though not all of their parent albums were necessarily ‘worthy’ of being considered the best of the year. Because of various factors, this list has its surprises and like any album reviewed, its triumphs and flaws. One thing’s for sure – the top ten to fifteen albums are pretty close to the cream of the crop from my perspective. Here are the 50 (+1) best albums of 2013!

Arcade Fire Launchs At No. 1 With Reflektor

November 7th, 2013 8:28am EST
Arcade Fire Reflektor
Arcade Fire return to a familiar place, the number one spot on the Billboard Album Charts.  The Montreal band’s most recent album, Reflektor moves a respectable 140,000 copies.  Compared to 2010 effort The Suburbs, the most recent figure is just slightly less (The Suburbs moved 156,000 copies).  Arcade Fire knocks Katie Perry off of her perch, sending PRISM to settle for no. 2 selling 92,000 copies.  According to billboard.com, Perry had a solid second week considering how much huge debuts tend to wane in sales.  That said, what is more noticeable to me is that only one album sells over 100...

Review: Arcade Fire, 'Reflektor'

November 4th, 2013 9:15pm EST
Arcade Fire Reflektor
The Canadian alt-rock band create an alluring, ambitious set with Reflektor: I’ll be the first to express that my mouth was agape when alt-band Arcade Fire pulled off the unthinkable at the 2011 Grammys – winning the coveted album of the year for The Suburbs.  Sure, there wasn’t any real reason to believe that the always ‘controversial’ hip-hop would be awarded the grand prize given its past failures (save for OutKast’s genre-bending  Speakerboxxx/The Love Below or Lauryn Hill’s genius The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill), but didn’t most of us still think Eminem had a chance with Recovery?  Ar...

Arcade Fire, 'Reflektor' Review: Uninteresting And Too Long Are A Few Words To Describe

October 29th, 2013 9:15pm EDT
Arcade Fire Reflektor
Words are hard. They’re hard to come up with to start this review off. Halfway through listening to the new Arcade Fire album, Reflektor, I found myself wishing I hadn’t set out to do a review on it. It’s not as if I needed to, I just like to keep busy and keep up with new music. I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what to say, how to sum up how I feel about the album overall. I’ve thrown out a few tweets about it, but even 140 characters is hard to limit myself. This is a super self-indulgent, bloated, boring, pointless, wandering album. I could probably go grab a thesaurus and fin...

Peter Gabriel Rethinking Covers Album Project

October 10th, 2011 9:40pm EDT
Peter Gabriel
Peter Gabriel is re-imagining his "I'll Scratch Yours" covers album project - because so many artists whose hits he covered on his "Scratch My Back" release aren't interested in reworking his songs.

Gabriel recorded orchestral renditions of songs by David Bowie, Arcade Fire, Neil Young and Radiohead among others for the 2010 album and he had hoped the artists would return the favor for a covers album of his own work.

But too many of the acts he honored with orchestral makeovers aren't interested in being part of the project.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I've sort of given up waiting...

Do The Standing Still: Five Songs About Disinterested Concert Goers

February 18th, 2011 12:02pm EST

It’s been an ongoing phenomenon at concert halls and clubs for years: audience members who, in spite of booming rhythms or funky beats, spend the evening just kind of standing there. Sometimes you’ll get a head-bob, sometimes a bit of a sway, but often times it’s an arms crossed, eyes forward stoic trance. In certain circles, getting a concert crowd moving is certainly no easy task, making groups that manage it hot items when they tour.

But this certainly isn’t anything new, there’s a memorable scene in the seminal 1966 film Blow Up where the protagonist wanders through the crowd of a Yard...
