AleemShock! Release Date 1987 Label Atlantic Rating: ![]() If you're not familiar with Leroy Burgess' final Black Ivory albums where the New York trio ventured from the love ballads that made them a cult item, you won't recognize him with the Aleem Brothers on this or their first Atlantic LP. If you're looking for the searing falsetto-singing Burgess, look elsewhere. With Tunde-Ra and Taharqa Aleem, Burgess serves up another platter of electric soul that's far less compelling than their Atlantic debut. &"Love Shock" is true Aleem and &"Searchin'" is interesting, but the rest merely redo, to a lesser degree, what made them an underground interest. This was the Aleems final album as artists, though they still run a recording company in the Big Apple and produce others. Andrew Hamilton, Rovi |
