Aleem
Casually Formal
Release Date 1986
Label Atlantic
Rating:

The Aleems' brand of electro-techno funk/rock gained a small cult following in New York, NY and with scattered fans worldwide. They managed small hits on their own Nia label with &"Release Yourself," &"Get Loose," and &"Confusion," which resulted in the Atlantic deal. Leroy Burgess (ex-leader of Black Ivory and identical twins Tunde-Ra & Taharqa Aleem goes for the brass ring with fine examples of what they do: &"Love's on Fire," &"Two Faces," and &"Dance to the Groove"; the album mixes upbeat dancefloor jams with mid-tempo romps, and ballads. They added &"Confusion," originally released on Nia, for this set. The Aleems, with Burgess and Sonny Davenport, wrote and produced all the material. Burgess also recorded with the Aleems as Calebur. Andrew Hamilton, Rovi
