Akwid is a hip-hop duo known for their unique sound, which incorporates a combination of hip-hop, rap, and regional Mexican music. The duo consists of brothers: Sergio “AK” Gómez and Francisco “Wikid” Gómez. The Gómez brothers were born in Jiquilpan, Michoacán, México, but are now based out of Los Angeles, California. The brothers moved to America when they were five, and three, years of age. Growing up on the streets of south central Los Angeles the brothers were immersed in a culture of rap and hip-hop. Naturally drawn to this style of music the brothers began to rap and rhyme as a way to express themselves.

The duo was spotted by an Univision Records rep and signed in 2002. Their debut album, “ Proyecto Akwid” arrived in 2003 to positive responses. The album earned the brothers two Billboard Awards and a Latin Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. The brothers followed up with, “KOMP 104.9 Radio Compa” in 2004, which became a hit with the fans. The duo went on to release three more albums with Univision, until they parted ways with the label in 2008. Their debut, “Clasificado,” for their new label Machete Music, a subsidiary of Universal Records, was released in 2010. In addition, their song, “¡Chivas Explosivas!” was picked as the official anthem for Club Deportivo Chivas USA , a Major League Soccer team. 2012 saw the duo put out their seventh studio album, “Revolver.”
