British Band The 1975 Score First No. 1 Album

3/8/2016 10:53am EST
The 1975 Lands Career First No. 1 Album
“What a time to be alive” it is for British alternative band The 1975. Matt Healy and company take their sophomore album I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It to the penthouse, aka no. 1 on the Billboard 200. How do the numbers look for The 1975? 108,000 units, with a healthy 91% of that total comprising of pure sales. The numbers aren’t earth shattering in the context of the overall state of the industry, but definitely respectable.

The 1975 weren’t the only newbies to the top 10 this week. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis settle for a fourth place finish with sop...

The 1975 Deliver An Ambitious Sophomore Album With 'I Like It Wh
I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It. Hmm, who makes a lengthy statement as the title of their album? British alt-rock band The 1975, that’s who! Give frontman Matt Healy and company credit for one thing – the ambitious songs on this sophomore album, hit or miss, definitely suits its odd, off-putting title. So how does ILIWYSFYASBYSUOI stack up? It has some sensational moments, yet it's quite confounding and requires the listener’s full investment.

The album initiates enigmatically with “The 1975,” an atmospheric intro where sound and vibe supplant a hand...

Adele’s '25' Makes It 10 Weeks Atop The Billboard 200
She’s done it again! Who, you ask? Adele of course, who else! 25 spends a tenth nonconsecutive week atop the Billboard 200, taking advantage of a slower sales week. How many more copies/units of 25 did Adele move? 100,000 units, with 81% (yes 81,000 copies) being pure sales. The sales only go downhill from here – just saying!

Despite a tepid sales week, there is some fresh blood in the top 10 – well just one newbie. Yo Gotti takes The Art Of Hustle to no. 4 to the tune of 61,000 units. For Yo Gotti, the numbers are an upgrade. Contextually speaking, 61,000 units won’t exactly reinvigorate ...

15 Musicians Who Oppose Religion
Hey, even Journey once sang "Don't Stop Believin'." Okay, okay, corny joke, but you've gotta "break the ice" somehow, right? 20 Food Songs That Aren’t About Eating
Everybody likes to eat – any disagreement with that nutritional statement? Because everyone enjoys filling their bellies, it’s not surprising that musician reference food in their songs as well as specifically in their song titles. A musician’s job is to connect with his or her audience, so what better way to do so than food? Here’s the deal though. On this list, none of the songs, which all reference ‘food’ in their title, are actually about eating. No, food is used metaphorically as a representation of something else. Sometimes ‘food’ gets a bigger meaning in the hands of these music...

'The 1975' Review: The Essential Pop Album Of 2013

9/3/2013 3:51pm EDT
The 1975
Earlier in the year, The 1975 released “Chocolate,” the catchiest song of the year and a surprise summer hit that actually had quite a bit of depth to it. The track was genuinely refreshing, especially in the fact of the bland electro-pop that has been in complete domination of radio waves for far too long now. Now, a few months later, the group has released its first record, and the good news is that “Chocolate” was no fluke. The even better news: this is easily the best pop record of the 2010’s.

What separates The 1975 from their peers is their sense of ambition. It’s apparent that the g...
