LOS ANGELES (AP) - Female directors are flooding today's theaters more than ever, with movies as diverse as the women themselves. Yet the struggle for equality, recognition and respect continues.

Lauren Holly joins the cast of NCIS as a series regular starring as NCIS Director Jenny Shepard, who has a romantic history with Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). She makes her first appearance as a regular on the show in the episode titled "Frame Up" to be broadcast Nov. 22 on CBS.

Jack Black will star opposite Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet in the romantic comedy Holiday, which centers on the friendship between an American and an English woman who meet after they are both dumped. Black will play a film composer who befriends Winslet’s character, and Diaz’s love interest will reportedly be a British actor. The film will be directed by Nancy Meyers (Something’s Gotta Give, What Women Want).
