The Worst Movies Of 2012

December 17th, 2012 3:07pm EST
The Oogieloves
Not every film can win an Oscar, but these flicks could be winning "awards" for their complete lack of entertainment. These are the Worst Movies of 2012:

Oogieloves In The BIG Balloon Adventure: "Hey, kids love those interactive TV shows like Dora the Explorer, right? Let's make a movie like that - we'll be millionaires!" That's what the producers behind Oogieloves were thinking - except that they failed to realize their franchise had no name power, let alone anything near Dora's, and that most kids would be uncomfortable answering questions or dancing along to a film in a dark theater ful...

‘The Watch’ Won't Please Fans of Any Genre

July 28th, 2012 11:48am EDT
The Watch 1
When I first read about Akiva Schaffer's alien invasion flick “The Watch,” I got the sense that it would be similar to “Attack the Block.” That was fine with me, since I loved Joe Cornish's funny, action-packed, thriller. I figured Schaffer's film would focus more on laughs than gore, given the casting of comedic actors like Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade. What I didn't anticipate though was how much “The Watch” would dial back action sequences in favor of mediocre comedy.

The word “crude” comes to mind, as both a description of the type of humor and the quality ...

Review: 'The Watch' An Unfunny Comedy About Space Invaders And Male Bonding (Video)

July 28th, 2012 7:44am EDT
The Watch
This so called comedy, is about four guys who have come together to watch over their suburban neighborhood of Glenview Ohio.

In this serene safe haven lives Evan Troutwig (Ben Stiller), a dull civic minded man, who loves his wife Abby (Rosemarie Dewitt); his neighborhood and his managerial job at Cosco.

Shortly after the film begins, the Cosco night watchmen is murdered. Evan decides to form a 'neighborhood watch' to find the culprit and make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

The only problem is, only three guys show up at Evan's house for the first meeting.

There's...Frankl...

'The Watch' And 13 Other Unfortunately-Timed Movies

The Watch
No one can look into the future, and not everyone can have good luck. While many films have a smooth release, these particular pictures were marred by similar real-life occurences - or fellow movies with matching plots.

The Watch - This week's Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn comedy released its first trailer in February of 2012 and a teaser poster of a bullet-riddled neighborhood watch sign. Fast forward one month later, when Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by neighborhood watch member George Zimmerman in Florida. The producers immediately pulled all media from Florida, switched the film's nam...

'The Watch' Is A Comedy Dream Team - Ben Stiller And Jonah Hill Explain

July 27th, 2012 11:22am EDT
Ben Stiller - The Watch
The Watch stars Ben Stiller as the leader of a neighborhood watch that includes Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and British comedian Richard Ayoade. It is the fifth film Stiller and Vaughn appear in together and the third in which they costar. Comedy connections abound between every star of the film.

“Jonah and I did a scene in Night in the Museum 2 together,” Stiller said. “We had so much fun doing that. We were really looking forward to work together again. I love working with these guys. It’s great to work with the people who make you laugh and who are funnier. Vince and I had a really fun tim...

Trailer Talk: 'The Watch,' 'Step Up Revolution,' and 'Killer Joe'

The Watch Poster
Last week I caught Christopher Nolan’s final Batman flick “The Dark Knight Rises,” which turned out to be a satisfying conclusion to his trilogy. Nolan ups the dramatic stakes significantly in “TDKR,” by introducing incredibly dark themes and a vile villain. While I didn’t like it as much as “The Dark Knight,” I actually found “TDKR” to be more enjoyable than “Batman Begins.” It’s hard to top the Joker as a bad guy, but Bane is much more ferocious and imposing than Ra’s Al Ghul.

As I suspected, Bane is a bit hard to understand at points, although his speech is clearer than I thought it wou...
