Oscar nominee Penelope Cruz is set to re-team with Volver director Pedro Almodovar for his next feature - La Piel Que Habito. The film is based on French author Thierry Jonquet's 1995 novel Mygale about a plastic surgeon who exacts hideous revenge on his daughter's rapist.

Pedro Almodovar's Volver picked up five honors at the Goya Awards in Madrid, Spain last night, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for Penelope Cruz. The movie, which had received 14 nominations, also won Best Original Soundtrack for Alberto Iglesias.

Academy awards for outstanding film achievements of 2006 will be presented on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Kodak theatre at Hollywood & highland center, and televised live by the ABC television network at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST), beginning with a half-hour arrivals segment, “The Road to The Oscars.” Babel is nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture. Spanish-language movie hits Pan's Labyrinth and Volver will compete for Oscar gold at the Academy Awards next month, but Clint Eastwood's Golden Globe winner Letters From Iwo Jima will miss out. Nine films from 61 hopefuls were selected as nominees for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 79th Oscars.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association just announced the winners of the 64th Golden Globe awards. Babel took home the award for best drama, while Dreamgirls won best comedy/musical. The Queen is the frontrunner at this year's Orange BAFTA awards, after receiving an incredible 10 nominations. Dame Helen Mirren has been nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, for her performance as Queen Elizabeth in the hit film about the British Royal Family after the death of Princess Diana, while Stephen Frears is in the running for the Achievement in Direction award. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) just announced the nominations for its 13th Annual Awards ceremony. The ensemble drama Babel, the musical Dreamgirls and the comedy Little Miss Sunshine each earned three nominations, as did the TV mob drama The Sopranos.

Pedro Almodovar's Volver and Agustin Diaz Yanes' Alatriste are the leading contenders for Spain's Goya Awards, taking 14 and 15 nominations respectively. The two movies will go head-to-head at the end of January in the Best Film and Best Director categories.

Penelope Cruz walked away with the Best Actress title at the European Film Awards in Warsaw, Poland, Saturday Night, winning over judges with her performance in Spanish film Volver. The comedy drama took home five awards, including Best Director and Best Cinematography, but lost out to German movie The Lives Of Others in the Best Film category.
