Robert Downey, Jr. Says He Was 'Disappointed' By 'Iron Man 2'

October 10th, 2011 2:16pm EDT
Robert Downey Jr
Robert Downey, Jr. has hailed Iron Man as the film that changed his life, but insists he found the superhero sequel "disappointing".

The actor reaffirmed his place in the Hollywood A-list playing inventor-turned-superhero Tony Star in the 2008 film following a career slump due to years lost in drug addiction. Downey, Jr. is convinced the success of Iron Man turned his fortunes around, but he was less than impressed with its 2010 sequel, which opened to mixed reviews from critics.

He tells the Los Angeles Times, "The first one changed everything for me. And with the second Iron Man there...

Tom Cruise Makes Crazy Work in 'Knight and Day'

June 25th, 2010 9:14am EDT
Knight and Day
Since Tom Cruise totally lost his mind a couple years ago, becoming a wacky character in his personal life, I’ve been wondering when he was finally going to make use of that energy in movies. We caught a brief glimpse of it in the 2008 comedy “Tropic Thunder,” where Cruise played the foul-mouthed film producer Les Grossman, however it was only a bit part. In the action packed “Knight and Day” starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, Cruise finally makes crazy work for him in the role of rogue spy Roy Miller.

Roy Miller is a suave agent who can fight or shoot his way out of just about any...

Remember Me - Robert Pattinson
As I sit here preparing this column, the Oscars have not aired yet, but I must admit there’s not a high likelihood that I will be watching them when they come on. Most years I’ll watch a few minutes here or there, if I’m interested to see who wins an award in real time.

The ceremony is drawn out and boring in my opinion, and requires sitting through too many commercials to warrant watching from start to finish. I care about the winners of various awards, just not enough to suffer through the tedium. I’m sure I’ll have some feedback for next week’s column though on the winners and loser...

"Developing a movie for a movie star is hard," Levy said. "Developing a movie for two movie stars is a very, very challenging enterprise. The bull's eye is small and the tone has to be exactly right. So we are still wo...

Our Favorite Movie Cameos

Our Favorite Movie Cameos
There are a lot of modern movies that love to give little winks at the audience, and one of the easiest ways to do that is through the use of cameo appearances. A cameo is when a well known celebrity or important person shows up for a brief appearance in a movie. It can be a non-speaking random role, or perhaps a whole scene that steals the show. Whatever the case may be, oftentimes in a film the cameo ends up being the most memorable part of the whole movie. Take "Zombieland" for example, out in theaters now, but there's no spoilers here. Just go see the film and you'll see. Here's a look ...

Matt Damon may have once started out as a serious thespian with small parts in films like Courage Under Fire and The Rainmaker, but he really didn't make a name for himself until 1997's Good Will Hunting, for which he also won an Oscar for screenwriting. There the blond-mopped young man played deep, pensive, and somewhat brooding characters, so it's a far cry to see him years later donning prosthetic noses and busy mustaches in order to get some added laughs for quirky, somewhat socially awkward characters. But Damon, in movies like the Ocean's Eleven series and now The Informant has proven...

TV is back, football is back, and summer movie season is finally at its end. Yes, no more summer movies, no more endless weekends filled with event films that shatter theater speakers and routinely melt screens with too much rambunctious action. It's a thankful end to a season that routine...

What is up with celebrities thinking they are clothing designers? Every time we turn around there is someone else coming up with another line of pointless outfits - either too expensive for any normal person to buy, or too cheap looking to be caught dead in.

She will be collaborating with her stylist on a line of women and children's clothes in the fall. If the blue dress or the satin jumpsuit (another "masterpiece") are any indication of what'...

August Can Be A Viable Movie Month Despite Its Reputation

The Bourne Ultimatum
While Hollywood has staked out late May, June and July as prime summer movie territory, August has gotten lost in the shuffle. August isn't as big of a dump month as September or January, but you usually don't find studios queuing up to put their surefire tent pole smashes there.

With summer winding down, younger audiences are turning their attentions back to school, families are getting in one final vacation, and cooler weather in some regions are all valid reasons why studios feel like box office for their mega-budgeted pictures would be affected by an August release.

Which leaves...

The Best & Worst Of Jack Black

If only life were so simple as to allow enjoyable Jack Black be noticeably different than awful Jack Black. Yes, if only life were this simple.

Sadly, it's not, otherwise I would not have recently lost 97 minutes of my life to Black's latest film, "Year One". While having its moments coming mainly fro...
