Survive and Vance: Chris Vance Drives 'Transporter: The Series'

October 16th, 2014 12:10pm EDT
Chris Vance
Chris Vance has been hiding in plain sight. The English actor impresses no matter what role you hand him. He was the enigmatic yet still kind of likeable James Whistler on Prison Break. The entertaining antagonist Mason Gilroy in five episodes of Burn Notice. The charming and often inspiring Dr. Jack Gallagher on Mental. The "of course she fell for him" Casey Jones in Rizzoli & Isles. Even when he was a really bad guy on Dexter, he was still worth watching. And yet, most TV viewers probably can't tell you his name.

That's about to change. Vance has taken on his biggest role yet, and he's t...

Don't Expect 'Safe' Star Jason Statham To Play Any Serious Roles

April 27th, 2012 4:42pm EDT
Jason Statham
You don't want to mess with the characters Jason Statham plays in many of his films. He was an ex special ops agent in "Killer Elite," a mercenary in "The Expendables" and an outlaw with impressive fighting skills in "The Transporter."

Don't ever expect him to do Shakespeare.

The British actor recently told the BBC, "I don't see myself as a great character actor that will play a lawyer and then something bizarrely different. That's not what my strength is."

We know what his strength is - kicking ass and taking names. He stars in the new film "Safe," hitting theaters today. He plays a su...

Jason Statham Says He'll 'Never Be A Great Actor'

April 19th, 2012 4:12pm EDT
Jason Statham
Don't expect Jason Statham to play anything other than action men on the big screen - he insists he isn't suitable for any other role.

The former diver and street jewelry hustler is about to be seen in new high-energy movie Safe, in which his character is embroiled in a deathly battle between the Triads, Russian mobsters and crooked New York cops.

And following roles in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and The Transporter films, Statham insists he is unlikely to stray from his hard man roles - and take on a romance, court thriller or period drama anytime soon.

He tells the ...

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
Model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley had to take a crash course in driving in Los Angeles after landing the leading lady role in the new Transformers film.

The Victoria's Secret stunner admits she bought herself a car in her native England when her modeling career took off - but she never learned how to drive it.

Then, when Michael Bay offered her a role in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, she realized she would have to get her license.

She says, "I was in a movie about cars with no idea how to drive... I just learned to drive because I moved here (Los Angeles)."

'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' Recap: Mac And Dennis Break Up

November 13th, 2009 4:00pm EST
It
Last week's episode of Sunny, with its dick towels and "frame bangs" (a euphemistic Dennis-ism for late night rapes performed for blackmailing purposes, his casual use of which still makes me cringe), started to make me worry that the show might be headed down the wrong path - being raunchy just for raunchiness' sake. While I enjoy a good teabag joke as much as anyone else, crude does not automatically equal funny. (Are you listening, Sarah Silverman?) So, I was relieved to find that this week's episode managed to be one of the funniest this season, while keeping things as close to PG-13 as...

The World of Celebrity Swag: A Starpulse Writer Gets Inside Access

September 24th, 2008 1:44pm EDT
Klub Nico shoes
Awards season is making its triumphant return to Hollywood and that means the return of the "Swag Suite." For those who don't know, the term "swag" is an acronym for Stuff We All Get. There's a bit of confusion as to who this collective "we" refers to. Last time I checked I didn't have designers falling all over themselves to give me free stuff. But this year I was one of the chosen few to be included in this illusive "we" as I was invited to my very first swag suite.

Let me explain swag suite as I see it from my perspective as innocent Tinseltown bystander: From September to Febr...

In Purely Exploiting Gratuitous Violence, 'Death Race' Remake Kills All Comedic Value

August 22nd, 2008 4:08pm EDT
Death Race
(HollywoodChicago) – While 2008’s “Death Race” makes no secret about being a remake of 1975’s “Death Race 2000” with David Carradine as the title character Frankenstein and Sylvester Stallone as his archrival Machine Gun Joe Viterbo, what’s perhaps less obvious but still clear when you read between the lines is how the film steals from others.

Though the story had a different book cover, Jason Statham’s character as Jensen Ames and then the masked Frankenstein can be directly correlated to (as just one example) Nicolas Cage’s character in 1997’s “Con Air”. We’ve certainly seen this bef...
