The Toronto International Film Festival was full of stars, so how could George Clooney compete with the likes of Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Madonna? He showed up twice. Two of Clooney’s films played the festival, and both are going to be opening in theaters soon.

The Ides of March, which Clooney directed and opens Friday, is a political drama about a presidential campaign. The Broadcasting Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced today that it will honor George Clooney by presenting him with its Freedom Award on the live telecast of 11th annual Critics' Choice Awards set to air on The WB Monday, January 9, 2006 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET) from the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
