'The Dictator' And 15 Other Beards That Steal Movies

May 16th, 2012 1:07pm EDT
Sacha Baron Cohen brings his trademark ridicu-shock humor to his new film "The Dictator," but it may be his beard that steals the show.

He plays Admiral General Aladeen, deposed dictator of the (fictional) Republic of Wadiya, who flees to the U.S. when his country converts to democracy. As a dictator, he's used to ruling with an iron fist, an incorrigible sense of righteous cruelty, and a thick, bushy beard that could house several terrified baby sparrows.

Aladeen may feel like a fish out of water in New York City, but he'd feel right at home among Hollywood's most magnificent beards of a...

For those like myself with a finer cinematic palate, movie posters have always been a true form of artistic expression and their display is no different then hanging a fine framed painting. So with 2011 now coming to an end, what did this year’s crop of one-sheets have to offer the film fan? Complete with cool flicks with crappy posters, bad films with tasty artwork and even bitter hobos who’ve had enough, we’re starting our year end coverage by taking a peak back at the most memorable movie one-sheets for the year – plus some of the biggest blunders as well! Welcome to our...

'Real Steel' Edges Out 'Footloose' At Weekend Box Office

October 17th, 2011 8:21am EDT
Real Steel
Hugh Jackman's robot boxing movie "Real Steel" has narrowly fought off competition from new dance remake "Footloose" to make it a second week atop the box office chart.

"Real Steel" locked down an extra $16.3 million in ticket sales this week to remain at number one, edging out "Footloose," starring Kenny Wormald in the part made famous by Kevin Bacon in 1984. It debuted in second place with opening weekend takings of $16.1 million.

Horror reboot "The Thing" entered the countdown at three, while Steve Martin's comedy "The Big Year" failed to tickle audiences and opened in ninth place.

You've got some seriously diverse choices at the theater this weekend: "Footloose" (Julianne Hough), "The Big Year" (Jack Black, Steve Martin and Owen Wilson", and The Thing (scary!!!)!

So what's your poison? You'll find me at "Footloose" ... obviously!

Selena Gomez Shows Off Her Legs In Sequined Hotpants

October 11th, 2011 8:22am EDT
Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez attended "The Thing" premiere in Los Angeles last night wearing a loose, flowing white blouse and short blue sequined hotpants. The singer/actress paired the look with black sandals.

We love the 19 year old's style. She spices up an outfit without going over the top or revealing too much.

Justin Bieber's girlfriend stars in the upcoming film "The Muppets," which hits theaters Nov. 23.

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'The Thing,' 'Footloose,' 'The Big Year' & More

Trailer Talk
I took a break from the theater last week in favor of watching a few movies at home. One of those was “American Psycho,” which I’m ashamed to say that I finally saw for the first time. While portions of the film were extremely disturbing, I thought that it perfectly encapsulated the minutia of 80s yuppie greed. It had a bitchin’ soundtrack too, that really helped set its deranged mood. Somewhere near the middle it lost a bit of momentum with its pacing, but overall, I thought it was a solid film. My Grade: B+

Pixar impressed me yet again with “Ratatouille,” which I also watched for the...

The Ides of March

The Ides of March

This weekend has an interesting match-up for the box office: George Clooney’s “The Ides of March,” a sure Oscar contender, vs. “Real Steel,” a robot boxing film starring Hugh Jackman. In “Ides,” Clooney, who directed and co-wrote the screenplay, stars as a promising presidential candidate whose young, idealistic aid (Ryan Gosling) sees the dark underbelly of what political campaigns are really about. Expect amazing performances from the entire cast which also includes Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Maris Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.

We're not alone, are we? It's fun to believe that we're not -- that somewhere, out there amongst the stars, there's intelligent life. Intelligent life with giant laser cannons and plans of domination.

For some people, the idea of an alien invasion is a terrifying nightmare. For others, it's a dream come true -- it would be proof that aliens actually exist, and we'd get to fight them with helicopters and laptop computers!
