Violence In PG-13 Movies On The Rise, According To New Report

November 12th, 2013 8:53pm EST
Skyfall
A new study has revealed that violence in the movies is on the rise, more specifically that films rated PG-13 have triple the amount of violence as R-rated movies from the mid-1980s.

Films like "The Terminator" and "Die Hard" were originally slapped with an R-rating when they came out, but their recent sequels have gotten by with only PG-13 ratings despite containing more guns and more violent scenes.

"The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) website clearly says that R-rated films contain more violence. But PG-13 films now contain significantly more violence than R-rated films," ...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Avatar,' 'Nine' & More

AVATAR
Last week I had a chance to catch "Invictus," director Clint Eastwood's latest effort. A lot of early buzz suggests the film should be a Best Picture contender at the Academy Awards, but I personally wasn't too impressed.

While "Invictus" isn't a terrible movie, it certainly isn't Eastwood's best. In many ways it just feels forced because the film tries too hard to send an inspirational message.

Eastwood explores a number of subplots that he never fully fleshes out, and he fails to establish the proper dramatic tension that makes a sports picture so powerful. As an audience member ...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Surrogates,' 'Pandorum' & More

Surrogates
I'm curious to see the reception of "Surrogates," at the box office this week. People I have spoken with seem to have mixed opinions about whether they think the movie will be enjoyable or not.

Their interest level in the movie seems to be linked to which trailer they have seen. Trailer 1 appears to be rather bland and doesn't do much to entice the viewer. Folks who have seen Trailer 2 however, agree that it does a better job of selling the concepts present in the film, as well as emphasizing Bruce Willis' struggle without his surrogate.

In addition to the sci-fi thriller "Surr...

Are TV Remakes A Good Idea?

Looking at the CW's Tuesday line up, it's almost like getting a blast from the past: "90210" and "Melrose Place" on again? Is it the 90s? No, they're just two examples of the new television remakes blasting onto the screen, and they're not alone. "Eastwick," based on the "Witches of Eastwick" movie, premieres on September 23 on ABC, and "V" (premiering Nov. 3) is a remake of a canceled science fiction series. Now ABC has the rights to adapt "St. Elmo's Fire" from the popular film, and NBC is bringing back their detective drama from the 70s "The Rockford Files."

This is hardly a new thin...

The Blockbusters

Just because a movie generates revenue at the box office does not necessarily translate into a successful well-loved film. X-Men Origins: Wolverine for instance, didn't exactly start the season off with a bang. Star Trek was loved by both fans and non-fans; something that was a bit of a worry before th...

Celebrity is something of a double edged sword. On one hand you could make millions and be adored by fans all over the world, but it also means the loss of privacy and the constant nitpicking of the mainstream critics. Here's a look at some of the celebrities who lost their mind or temper at the wrong time, and whether or not they have managed to bounce back from the incidents. What do you think of these moments in celeb history...

I saw "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" last week, and I really enjoyed it. Apparently among critics I was in the minority on that one. The film certainly wasn't perfect, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as people were saying.

The surprising thing for me though, was how divided people's opinions were about it. For the most part I found that people who viewed the film fell into two camps: those that loved it and those that hated it. I didn't really encounter a many people who fell in between.

July starts out a bit slow this week with "Public Enemies," "Ice Age: Dawn of...
