The Explosive Movies That Crushed The Box Office On Independence Day Weekend

July 4th, 2014 8:01am EDT
Wild Wild West
The weekend following Independence Day here in America has become a must-perform spot on the calendar for movie studios. This year, the 4th of July lands on a Friday, leaving us bereft of new releases (although Transformers: Age of Extinction, which came out on the 27th, should do nicely). So with nothing new coming out, let's take a look at the bombastic films we celebrated freedom with in years past.

Wild Wild West

If there's one thing you need to know about Will Smith, it's that he loves July 4th. No other actor has benefited more from releasing films around Independence Day than Wil...

Arnold Schwarzenegger Puts Film Career On Hold

May 19th, 2011 11:43pm EDT
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Disgraced movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger has put his film comeback on hold so he can concentrate on his exploding personal life.

The former California Governor stunned Hollywood earlier this week when he revealed he had fathered a lovechild with a member of his household staff over a decade ago - just days after he and his wife Maria Shriver had announced plans to separate.

And now Schwarzenegger has decided he has to address personal matters before returning to Hollywood, where he is slated to star in a new Terminator film and a movie about a washed-up horse trainer, Cry Macho.

Alana Curry In The Worst Photoshoot Ever

February 24th, 2010 5:00pm EST
Alana-Curry-022410s1
Alana Curry recently did a photoshoot in a pink & gray tube-top bikini, showing off her fantastic bod. But that bikini segment of her recent photoshoot was only the beginning. Here she is again, this time in what we're calling the 'worst photoshoot ever'.

In part two, Alana strikes a few very uncomfortable looking poses down a cramped looking alley in your basic, summery window-shopping attire.

And seriously, what's with the side ponytail? Do women still do that? We thought that went out at midnight on January 1, 1985 - with the rest of 1984. She needs to hook up with Hayden Panettiere an...

Who The Hell Is Alana Curry & Why Does She Think She's A Sex Symbol?

February 22nd, 2010 12:30pm EST
Alana Curry
Alana Curry shows her body off in new promotional photos featuring an 80s-like fuchsia and gray bikini. Who is Alana exactly? Well, she played a waitress on "Days Of Our Lives" for a while and has done "numerous commercials" and TV appearances, according to her official website. See more photos after the jump!

Well, we have to give Alana credit for trying. You have to do something to stand out in Hollywood. And appearing in provocative photos is one way to do it (or at least try!)

Her film credits include a small role in 2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (like, a really small...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Surrogates,' 'Pandorum' & More

September 22nd, 2009 10:27am EDT
Surrogates
I'm curious to see the reception of "Surrogates," at the box office this week. People I have spoken with seem to have mixed opinions about whether they think the movie will be enjoyable or not.

Their interest level in the movie seems to be linked to which trailer they have seen. Trailer 1 appears to be rather bland and doesn't do much to entice the viewer. Folks who have seen Trailer 2 however, agree that it does a better job of selling the concepts present in the film, as well as emphasizing Bruce Willis' struggle without his surrogate.

In addition to the sci-fi thriller "Surr...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

June 15th, 2009 9:02am EDT
Year One
I finally got around to seeing "Terminator Salvation," and I must admit I wasn't terribly impressed. Overall the film was better than "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," but that doesn't say a whole lot because "T3" was pretty bad. Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin were great, while Christian Bale gave an okay performance. I was expecting a more epic movie considering all its hype.

This week there are five films premiering: "Year One," "The Proposal," "Whatever Works," "Food Inc," and "Dead Snow." There are three I think are worth seeing, and two I think you should wait to rent.

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

May 18th, 2009 9:25am EDT
Terminator Salvation
The first three weeks of the summer movie season started out a bit slow, but from here the momentum really starts to build. There's a spike in the number of movies premiering with six coming out this week, two of which are sequels. One of those sequels is a movie I've been anticipating since I heard it was in development. Hint: it involves giant robots, and it's not "Transformers 2."

Opening in cinemas this week are "Terminator Salvation," "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," "Dance Flick," "Easy Virtue," "The Girlfriend Experience," and "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers...

Hyper-Masculine Action Films Are Violent, Ridiculous & So Much Fun

April 15th, 2009 12:52pm EDT
Fast & Furious
According to Hollywood and its demographic cinema box office soothsayers, the only people who have the ability to purchase tickets to and actively watch an action film are men and teenage boys. They believe that women, for the most part, cannot watch these films - unless their boyfriends, husbands, male friends, etc. have explicitly gave them entrance to the theater or made the magical DVD player start the film.

Either way, it is assumed that men are the ones with the keys to the magic that is "boom and vroom." Hollywood types with these lofty gendered assumptions are most definite...

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Ah, Terminator. The movie that launched the Governator into super stardom. Before "Terminator," Arnold Schwarzenegger was just a weightlifting sensation and the star of "Pumping Iron." Afterward he became one of the most marketable action stars in Hollywood.

Now we have some new meat to sink our metallic teeth into. "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is coming to the small screen on Fox January 13 and 14 in a two-part, two-day event. It remains to be seen what this new incarnation will make of the muddied mythology, but "Chronicles" will focus initially on the Connors and the ev...
