Which Animated Films Will Be Nominated For An Oscar?

It's almost here. The Superbowl of Hollywood (a.k.a. The Academy Awards) will be held for its 80th run on February 24. With the announcement ceremony on January 22, I would like to take a moment to look at one of my favorite categories: Best Animated Feature.

Some real gems have been nominated in this category in the past (i.e. Spirited Away, The Incredibles, The Triplets of Belleville, etc.). For this year's Oscars, there are 12 animated features that have been submitted for consideration:

In Evan Almighty, television anchorman-turned-U.S. congressman Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) relocates his family from Buffalo to Northern Virginia, and God (Morgan Freeman) reveals to him that a devastating flood is coming and the planet is about to be cleansed once again. 'Rush Hour 3' Tops U.K Box Office

Brett Ratner's new movie Rush Hour 3 has raced to the top the U.K and Ireland box office. The action adventure, which stars Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, earned $5.46 million.

Transformers dropped to number three, while Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix fell one place to four.

Evan Almighty - the comedy sequel to the 2003 film Bruce Almighty - took $1.36 million to round out the top five.

A surfing penguin currently riding the wave of success enters his first professional competition in a computer animated family-oriented comedy from directors Chris Buck and Ash Brannon.
