The Explosive Movies That Crushed The Box Office On Independence Day Weekend

July 4th, 2014 8:01am EDT
Wild Wild West
The weekend following Independence Day here in America has become a must-perform spot on the calendar for movie studios. This year, the 4th of July lands on a Friday, leaving us bereft of new releases (although Transformers: Age of Extinction, which came out on the 27th, should do nicely). So with nothing new coming out, let's take a look at the bombastic films we celebrated freedom with in years past.

If there's one thing you need to know about Will Smith, it's that he loves July 4th. No other actor has benefited more from releasing films around Independence Day than Wil...

Superman and Batman are set to share the screen in Zack Snyder's sequel to this summer's Man of Steel.

The director surprised fans with the news during Comic Con over the weekend, following the presentation of upcoming films on the way from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, taking the stage to make the big reveal.

Snyder then brought out "Man of Steel" actor Harry Lennix, who read a passage from graphic novelist Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns," which involves both superheroes at odds with each other.

"I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in all your most p...

Gonzalez came upon the comic while tearing down one of the walls during a renovation project in the home, which he and wife Deanna bought for $10,100.

Confused? So am I (and I’ve watched SMALLVILLE since the beginning), but it doesn’t matter. After years of stalling a conclusion that has been foregone since the premiere, this year SMALLVILLE will stop dragging its feet, as Clark Kent will finally become Superman, even if it’s not until until the finale.

I'm one of many fanboys who was, let's say underwhelmed with Superman Returns. Yes, in a time when production budgets are dependent on a 'sure bet', there will be hyper-formulaic films. The issue now is the remake-remake. Confused? You are not the only one. Remakes of remakes, sometimes more positively spun as 'reimaginings', are not unheard of. 3-D Films: Worth Watching Or Better Off Skipping?

June 17th, 2009 11:36am EDT

The film industry has a long history with trying different avenues to bring more viewers in and keep them in their theater seats. In the 1930s, studios brought back what we remember as "Smell-o-vision," which first began around the late 1910s. This technology bombed with theater audiences but apparently works in theme parks, as it is popular in Disney World on rides like "Soarin" and "It's Tough To Be a Bug."

3-D technology was another attempt at creating a higher level of spectacle for cinema audiences. There are different ways to create three dimensional images - different cameras...
