The Most Rad Flicks From The 80s

April 5th, 2014 8:00am EDT
Top Gun
The 80s might have been the age of MTV and Heavy Metal, but don’t think that there weren’t some thrilling films rocking at the box office as well. This denim-clad, hairspray overflowing decade birthed the movie blockbuster megafranchise and the teenage angst anthem, selling out theater seats as galactic space emperors and high school heartthrobs sent cinematic shockwaves up our spines.

The movies may not have been as Oscar-worthy as those from ten years earlier. But just like the high top sneakers and parachute pants the defined the decade, these movies were loud, flamboyant, and instantly...

January 25th, 2012 9:07am EST
Kiefer Sutherland
Kiefer Sutherland is still mourning the loss of his friend and "Stand By Me" co-star River Phoenix because the young actor was on course to become one of the greats.

Phoenix was just 23 when he died outside Los Angeles club The Viper Room in 1993, and Sutherland admits he still can't believe such a promising star is gone.

The 24 star says, "I liked River Phoenix so much and he passed at such an early age and he was one of those wonderful young actors.

"He couldn't have been more than 13 or 14 at the time (we made Stand By Me) and he was the one that would call you in your room every nigh...

August 17th, 2010 1:00am EDT
Jerry O
Actor Jerry O'Connell can't wait for fans to see his new movie "Piranha 3D" - because he loses his manhood to flesh-eating fish in one gruesome scene.

Far from being embarrassed by the thought of film fans getting "showered" by his ripped-off penis in 3D, the "Stand By Me" child star is relishing in the gory scene.

He tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "It was actually pretty fun. I've seen a little bit of it. I shouldn't say that; I've seen a large chunk of it and it looks great. It's really funny actually."

Co-star Kelly Brook adds, "The thing with the piranhas is they always go for a particular...

Corey Feldman: 'Hollywood Used And Abused Corey Haim'

March 11th, 2010 9:07am EST
Corey Feldman
Corey Feldman has blamed Hollywood for turning its back on his tragic best friend Corey Haim after he was no longer a cute child star. The 38-year-old "Lost Boys" actor was discovered unresponsive at his mom's California home on Wednesday and was pronounced dead upon arrival at St Joseph's hospital in Burbank.

Feldman was devastated by the tragic news - and while he's touched by the celebrity tributes that have come pouring in, he's upset none of the stars reached out to his pal during his times of need.

In an interview with Larry King, Feldman says, "Where were all these people the las...

September 22nd, 2009 9:45am EDT

The media focuses primarily on the failed careers of child stars, their rehab stints and jail time. Lindsay Lohan, Drew Barrymore, Corey Feldman, Britney Spears and Danny Bonaduce are among the celebrities who fall into that stereotypical troubled child star label. However, there have been a few child actors who grew up normal despite the media presence in their young lives.

Jerry O'Connell - The Jerry Maguire actor first appeared in Stand by Me in 1986 at the age of eleven. Following the movie, he went back to school and didn't return to the scene as a full time actor until after he ...

Coming-Of-Age Films That We All Remember

July 8th, 2009 1:00pm EDT
SuperBad
Making the transition from adolescence into adulthood is a critical phase in an individual's life. This coming-of-age period, which has been coined "emerging adulthood" by Clark University research professor, Dr. Jeffrey Arnett, is characterized by identity exploration, self-focus, instability, a belief in boundless possibilities, and feeling in-between. According to Arnett's theory, in industrialized societies the types of experiences that people have who are in their late teens to mid-20's have changed dramatically over the past 50 years. Instead of being quick to make that walk down the ...

The Goonies
Sure, it's true that childhood obesity is a serious problem that menaces the health and well-being of many American tots, whose rate of becoming the deep-fried and taterized variety has risen significantly over the past 30 years. Yet, we are not here to discuss alarming statistics or to point fingers (at the fast food industry for example) for America's increasingly doughy population. No siree. Rather, we come here today to raise our soda-filled glasses to pay tribute to all of those wonderful pie-faced kids who have cinematically graced us with their weighty presence over the years. So, he...

Zac Efron: The Next Leonardo DiCaprio Or Corey Feldman?

May 14th, 2009 9:30am EDT
Zac Efron
In theory, being a teen heartthrob seems like a pretty sweet gig. They never have to wait for tables at restaurants, they have throngs of adoring fans, and they get to date gorgeous models and actresses. Basically, they are given a first class ticket for life, which means more leg room, no middle seats, and cashews instead of peanuts.

But as appetizing as all that sounds, teen heartthrobdom isn't all that it's cracked up to be. It can be a dicey business that often comes at a hefty price because it doesn't guarantee that the ensuing path will be paved quite as goldenly as the yellow b...

25 Surprise Celebrity Deaths That Rocked Us All

April 7th, 2009 9:10am EDT
Natasha Richardson
Actress Natasha Richardson's unexpected death in a skiing accident late last month stunned and saddened the public. The usually overzealous media even seemed to tread lightly, gently reporting a story it never expected to tell. For a culture that values and admires celebrity, the death of vibrant public figures with potential yet to fulfill serves as a harsh reminder that despite glamour, talent and seemingly charmed lives, all of us are mortal. Whether on screens big or small, over the radio airwaves or in bright vivid color on canvas, the sudden passing of an entertainer can feel like the...

October 10th, 2008 10:16am EDT
Friday the 13th
There have been 11 installments in the Friday the 13th saga (parts one through eight, Jason X, Jason VS Freddy, and Jason Goes to Hell), and all that we really have learned is that Jason Vorhees is an indestructible, undead mute who likes to wear sporting equipment over his face and kill people, mostly teenagers, in new and exciting ways.

This has been his pastime since 1980, and along the way he’s met all kinds of interesting characters, and usually he proceeds to kill them. Some of these folks have gone onto projects with a little more substance, and some have increased notoriety ...

Top Ten 80s Movie Soundtracks

February 28th, 2008 12:27pm EST
Purple Rain
Starpulse recently ran a 'Top Ten 80s Albums' list, in which the inclusion of the Top Gun soundtrack inspired me to come up with a list of the "Top Ten 80s Movie Soundtracks." After doing a little 'freshening up,' both through my own personal collection, growing-up-80's memories and, oh, some website that has info about movies & music and the like, I've narrowed my list down to the top ten.

(And no, "Top Gun" didn't take my breath away and make it onto the list)

The main criteria used here is that only the film had to be released in the 80s, not the music contained on its soundtrack. I...

15 Memorable Music Scenes On Film

William Shakespeare
As a film junkie and music geek I always look forward to seeing what songs directors will put in certain scenes to create the right mood. Finding the perfect song isn't always easy. The song has to fit that key moment or it could ruin the movie.

Following is a list of songs that have really made a movie scene stand out. I'm sure you will notice two things about me: I love chick flicks and 80's movies. This wasn't an easy task. I found over 50 songs and cut the list down to 15 with a few honorable mentions.
