This summer, NBC has tried to fill its programming schedule with a show called “Persons Unknown” created by Christopher McQuarrie who wrote the screenplay for 1995’s “The Usual Suspects” and next spring’s “The Tourist” starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. The show is about a group of seven strangers who wake up trapped in a small, non-descript town with no idea why they are there or who abducted them. Adrien Brody's Sex Scene Turned Hollywood Off 'Splice'

June 3rd, 2010 8:59pm EDT
CELEBNAME
Canadian moviemaker Vincenzo Natali had to seek French help to fund his new horror film "Splice," because Hollywood studio bosses were turned off by a sex scene between Adrien Brody and a creature his character had created.

The director admits he struggled to find interest among potential U.S. studio bosses - because no one wanted to watch Brody get intimate with a half-woman, half-creature, played by French actress Delphine Chaneac.

Natali says, "That scene was the reason I wanted to make the film and that's why it's such a miracle this film exists.

"No studio wanted to make it, because...

Splice
This week’s sci-fi horror film Splice shows what can go wrong when scientists mess with DNA to create Dren (Delphine Chaneac), a hybrid of many species. It was inspired by actual science, and it comes out just weeks after Craig Venter unveiled his synthetic organism.

“It started when I saw a photo of this thing called The Vacanti Mouse, which you might recall is a mouse that appeared to have a human ear growing out of its back,” said writer/director Vincenzo Natali. “It was such a shocking image. It wasn’t a genetic experiment actually but it looked like one and I just intuitively felt som...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Killers,' 'Get Him To The Greek,' & More

June 1st, 2010 9:14am EDT
Get Him to the Greek
Lately I’ve been quite busy seeing movies. I saw three of the films that came out last week and I already caught one that opens this week. My review of the one premiering this week will be in next week’s column.

I subjected myself to “Sex and the City 2” last Monday which I appreciated it about as much as any man probably could: not very much. It was not a terrible film by any means though. Fans of the show should have a good time. My Grade: B-

Tuesday I saw “Prince of Persia” which I describe as a funnier version of “Clash of the Titans” since the dialogue is more entertaining. As ...

He says, "I had such an intimate scene and that's where the scene takes place - in the barn, and I wanted to keep the memory.
