The Cabin in the Woods director to helm Spider-Man spin-off

The Cabin In The Woods director Drew Goddard is nearing a deal to helm Spider-Man spin-off film The Sinister Six.

Goddard, who is also writing the script, is in negotiations to direct the film, according to Variety.com.

Last year (13), producers behind the Spider-Man film franchise announced they are planning a number of spin-off movies, including The Sinister Six, an ensemble piece featuring a group of the superhero's arch-enemies, and another film focusing on Venom, who was played by Topher Grace in 2007's Spider-Man 3.

Studio bosses planning to release Spider-Man movie every year

Sony Picture Entertainment bosses have announced they are planning to expand the Spider-Man franchise by releasing a new film about the superhero every year.

The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield raked in $752 million worldwide in 2012 and studio executives are hoping to cash in on its box office success by bringing more of the web-slinger to the silver screen.

In an interview with Variety, Sony Picture Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal reveals, "We are expanding the Spider-Man universe into The Sinister Six and Venom, so that we have Spider-Man movies every year."

Reeve Carney's Spider-Man costume to be added to the Smithsonian Institute

The suit actor Reeve Carney wore as Spider-Man during his Broadway stint in the musical Turn Off The Dark is to be added to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in Washington D.C.

Carney spent nearly three years in the spandex outfit until he parted ways with the production last September (13), and now his iconic costume will live on in of America's foremost museums.

Late costume designer Eiko Ishioka came up with the outfit, which helped earn her a 2011 Tony Award nomination.

Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark ending on Broadway
Broadway's superhero musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" is set to end its run early next year.

The production, which is the most expensive stage production ever at $75 million and features music from U2's Bono and The Edge, became one of the Great White Way's biggest earning shows after a very troubled start.

The play saw a big fall in earnings over the fall and prducers have decided to pull the plug after two years. It's not over though -- they'll merely be packing up the show and taking it to Las Vegas.

The Spider-Man musical will end its run on Broadway early next year (14).

The superhero show, which features music from U2's Bono and The Edge, was one of the most expensive theatrical productions in history, and after a shaky start, rose to become one of Broadway's biggest earners.

But after a major dip in earnings over the autumn (13), producers have decided to end its Broadway run in January (14) and take the musical to Las Vegas.

The show's spokesman Rick Miramontez says, "Further details will be announced in the weeks to come."

Earning $65 million, "The Amazing Spider-Man" swung into first place at the box office over the weekend. The film, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, opened to positive reviews on Tuesday and made a record-breaking $7.5 million in midnight ticket sales.

The film earned a total of $140 million over its six-day opening, less than the three previous films from the franchise. The first "Spider-Man" (2002) made $144.2 million in its six-day start, and "Spider-Man 2" (2004) made $180.1 million. "Spider-Man 3" (2007) took home a respectable $176.2 million.

Actress Kirsten Dunst has won a three-year restraining order against a French fan who allegedly turned up outside her home uninvited.

The Spider-Man star was granted a temporary court order against Jean Christophe Prudhon, 51, in December amid allegations he sent her more than 50 love letters and jetted to the U.S. to meet her face-to-face, even confronting the actress' mother on the doorstep of her home.

Broadway's much-maligned Spider-Man musical closed out 2012 in style by setting new box office records for New York theater.

The spectacular, which opened to scathing reviews last year following multiple delays and safety issues, grabbed the record for the highest single-week gross of any show in Broadway history on Tuesday thanks to post-Christmas ticket sales of over $2.9 million.

Kirsten Dunst has won an extension of a restraining order to keep a French fan away from her until the new year.

The Spider-Man star was granted a court order against Jean Christophe Prudhon, 51, this month amid allegations he sent her more than 50 love letters and flew to the U.S. in a bid to meet her, even confronting the actress' mother on the doorstep of her home.

Willem Dafoe's home in Rome, Italy has been burgled in a co-ordinated raid in which thieves allegedly used sophisticated climbing gear to break into the penthouse apartment.
