The fabulous Marilyn Monroe had a contract with 20th Century Fox that allowed her do one outside the studio pic for every picture she did for 20th. Luckily Billy Wilder was able to attain MM's services for one of the greatest comedies of all time, and a performance from MM that should have gotten her a nomination if not the Oscar itself. ( a bit of irony the winner the year she should have won was Simone Signoret the wife of MM's lover Yves Montand). Marilyn Monroe is deleriously wonderful and sings three songs like they have never been sung since, in this wild and totally whacky comedy with Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and the incomparable Joe E. Brown.
Aside: MM insited "that Wilder re shoot my entrance to the movie and together they collobrated on the wonderful scene of MM
being hit by train smoke as she waked by the passenger train.

Billy Wilder and MM fought a lot but as Wilder said MM was a Genius and second only to Garbo as greatest actress of the Screen.

Marilyn Monroe forever fabulously the greatest star of the Silver Screen. MM's agents were able to secure a then fantastic deal and she made a record $2 Million on the initial release and to this date the movie hauls in money for the Monroe estate.

Joe E Brown so famous as a Silent Screen star returned to the Silver Screen and with Jack Lemmon has one of the greatest fade out scenes in Movie History. I do not know who won for Best Supporting Actor but it is today unthinkable that Joe E. Brown did not win.
