Jennifer Lawrence won Silver Linings Playbook role after reenact
Actress Jennifer Lawrence won her role in Silver Linings Playbook after reenacting an encounter with a spider.

Director David O. Russell explains he was "fascinated" by The Hunger Games star as she acted out her confrontation with the creepy-crawly during her audition.

He says, "I asked her to cry and she made me cry. She cried, so she went to get a tissue in the bathroom. She went, 'Ah! There's a gigantic spider in the bathroom!' She imitated how the spider went when she tried to attack (it). That fascinated me as much as anything else. She was unlike anybody I'd ever seen."

Anne Hathaway could have been a double winner at the Oscars last year (13) if she hadn't dropped out of Silver Linings Playbook due to creative differences with director David O. Russell.

The film's producer, Harvey Weinstein, has revealed Hathaway was the first choice to play mentally-unstable Tiffany Maxwell in the movie, but she fell out with Russell and was replaced by Jennifer Lawrence.

Both women won Oscars - Lawrence took home a Best Actress award and Hathaway a Best Supporting Actress honour for Les Miserables.

Robert De Niro was so fooled by Christian Bale's look in new film American Hustle he didn't recognise the actor on the set.

De Niro has an uncredited cameo in the movie and director David O. Russell admits he knew he'd perfected Bale's podgy, balding look when the movie great asked the filmmaker who the overweight guy was.

Russell tells WENN, "We wanted to do something he'd never done before. When he met the whole cast he shook their hands and said, 'Who's that guy?' And I said, 'You just met him, that's Christian Bale'. He goes, 'Wow, he looks so different. He looks great!' He didn't rea...

David O. Russell
Director David O. Russell tracked down Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne while he was dreaming up the soundtrack for his 1970s-era movie American Hustle and asked him to part with a handful of unreleased tracks.

The Silver Linings Playbook filmmaker had been told that Lynne would never hand over the never-before-heard tunes, but Russell was feeling lucky, thanks to his former post code.

He explains, "He (Lynne) happened to have a song called Overture 10538, which turns out to be the zip (post) code where I grew up, which is a freaky thing. I never actually talked to him about tha...

Lawrence says, "When I saw everybody the next day, it was just kind of like, 'Hey, how are you? Congratulations....

The Hunger Games actress has revealed she was handed unflattering photographs of herself by an unnamed advisor in a bid to prompt her to slim down.

She tells Britain's Harper's Bazaar, "I was young. It was just the kind of s**t that actresses have to go through. Somebody told me I was fat, that I was going to get fired if I didn't lose a certain amount of weight. They brought in pictures of me where I was basically naked, and told me to use them as motivation for my diet."

Django Unchained
The nominees for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards have been revealed, setting up what looks to be another rollicking ceremony celebrating the Cinema of Cool (via golden statues of popcorn — or Golden Popcorns, if you want to be all official-like).

MTV's own Josh Horowitz joined "Pitch Perfect" star Rebel Wilson to announce the nominees, with Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" coming forth as the major contenders with seven nominations each. Does this mean that the slave turned bounty hunter should team up with the foul-mouthed, hard-drinking teddy bear in some futu...

Jennifer Lawrence's 'Silver Linings' Wardrobe Sells For $12,000 At Auction

March 2nd, 2013 12:30pm EST
Jennifer Lawrence Silver Linings Playbook
Winning an Oscar does wonders for the value of a film's assets. The wardrobe worn by "Best Actress" winner Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook" shattered auction estimates and sold for $12,000.

Five costumes went under the hammer by auction bosses at Nate D. Sanders, who expected the costumes to draw bids between $500 and $1,500 each. They were pleasantly surprised when one lot, a full-length wool coat Lawrence wore in the film, took in $4,652 alone.

During the film's ballroom dance sequence Lawrence's character wore white pants, which fetched almost $4,000 at the three-day onli...

Best Director - Who Will Win ?

February 24th, 2013 5:40pm EST
A snub of Ben Affleck in the Best Directing category shows that all signs seem to point toward Steven Spielberg for his brilliant vision of 1860s America and the passing of the 13th Amendment.

But don't count out David O. Russell, whose Silver Linings Playbook just scooped up all the big awards at the Film Independent Spirit Awards last night.

Also in the running are Michael Haneke for his minimalist approach in Amour, taking long camera shots and filming nearly the entire film about an elderly woman's declining health and her loving husband who cares for her in a two-bedroom Paris apartm...

'Argo,' 'Lincoln' Frontrunners To Win Best Picture

February 24th, 2013 5:10pm EST
This year's Oscars promises to be full of drama and surprises as there are only a handful of sure locks to win awards.

The biggest question of all is which film will take home the award for Best Picture, with Ben Affleck's Iran Hostage drama Argo and Steven Spielberg's presidential biopic Lincoln leading the pack.

While Lincoln looked to be a sure bet early on, it wasn't until the Golden Globes that Argo began gaining all of the momentum; scooping up numerous awards, including Producers and Directors Guild Awards.

But that still doesn't mean it'll win Oscar gold. The Producers Guild has ...

Jennifer Lawrence, Nina Dobrev and Salma Hayek
The stars were out Saturday night for the Film Independent Spirit Awards, held at the Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California.

Hosted by comedian Andy Samberg this year, the awards ceremony isn't quite as formal as Sunday night's Oscars, taking place over lunch in a tent on the beach with no string of limousines dropping off A-list stars and port-a-potties being the place for nominees to "freshen up."

Oscar picks 2013
2012 was a great year for films.

We had an old fashioned spaghetti western that blended over the top comedy, violence and the horror of slavery from the always exceptional Quentin Tarrantino ('Django Unchained).

There were several films based on real life events - one that took us on an edge of your seat journey involving the hunt and capture of Osama Bin Laden ('Zero Dark Thirty' - directed by Kathryn Bigelow) and the other...

The rescue of 6 American hostages during the Iran 1979 revolution ('Argo' - directed by Ben Affleck).

Speaking of history, we saw all the manipulations and pol...

Host Katie Couric asked De Niro how he related to the film. He began to respond, but found himself overwhelmed by his emotions. After several minutes of fighting the tears and recieving suppo...

Date Movie Talk: 'Silver Linings Playbook'

February 2nd, 2013 3:00pm EST
Those are two fiiineee looking crazy people.
The date movie. We’ve all been here. Be it a night out with your wife or hubby, a first date with someone you met online, or simply something you enjoy doing with your boyfriend or girlfriend, oftentimes seeing the right kind of movie can enhance your romantic endeavors for the evening, and seeing the wrong kind of movie can damn them completely. Some movies are romance neutral. I don’t think anyone seeing “Parker” is going to come out of that movie questioning the very fabric of their lives, for example. But, some are profound. In a series of articles highlighting the good date movies, the...

Jennifer Lawrence poked fun at her Oscar rivals while hosting comedy show Saturday Night Live.

January 15th, 2013 8:33am EST
Silver Linings Playbook
Despite the chemistry they exhibited in "The Silver Linings Playbook," Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence aren't a real-life couple.

Lawrence, 22, recently broke up with actor Nicholas Hoult after a two-year relationship, and coincidentally Cooper, 38, recently split with actress Zoe Saldana. Rumors started flying, but the actor has shut them down.

Cooper explained to Entertainment Tonight: "No, no, no, no, no. Not even close. First of all, I could be her father. No, I'm kidding. But no, not even close."

The duo have great on-screen chemistry, but that's where it stops. They are starri...

Two Jews On Their Top Ten Films Of 2012

January 6th, 2013 10:55pm EST
Life of Pi
2012 was a great year for films - studio films as well as Indy titles all scored big.

From the exquisite writing, directing, special effects, I found myself laughing hysterically from a foul mouth, over-sexed pot smoking bear, to a bunch of folks freaking out at the prospect of turning 40.

We had cutting edge performances from Matthew McConaughey ('Killer Joe' & 'The Paper Boy), Nicole Kidman ('The Paper Boy'), John Hawkes and Helen Hunt ('The Sessions') as well as Daniel Day Lewis ('Lincoln') Anthony Hopkins (Hitchcock) and the whole cast of 'Django Unchained'.

As usual, John and I didn...

Best Movies of 2012

December 24th, 2012 12:00pm EST
The Avengers
2012 was a great year for superheroes, James Bond, a former President of the United States and Ben Affleck. What defines a great film? It's different for everyone, but first and foremost it must entertain. Many movies did just that over the past year.

"The Avengers" was the highest grossing film of 2012, earning $623 million in the United States and a staggering $1.5 billion worldwide.

The number-three grossing film of all time (behind James Cameron's "Titanic" and "Avatar"), starred Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as the H...

De Niro went as far as to speak to director David O. Russell about his casting ideas, even though Gloria had never acted before, and thought she would be perfect because the Coopers hail from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the same town as the movie ...
