Watch Out! 'Sharknado' is Heading to the Big Screen

July 26th, 2013 2:06pm EDT
The strange success of Syfy's Sharknado movie — which former "90210" star Ian Ziering called his "John Travolta 'Pulp Fiction' moment," by the way — can probably be attributed to the same cultural normative (or abnormative, we should say) that made "Bubba Teeth" a hit: Every now and then, people just like to drop all pretense and participate in the humor of things.

But it looks like it may just be those producers who took a chance on such an utterly ridiculous movie concept who get the last laugh when this thing hits actual theaters. 'Cause that's happening now.

Yep, "Sharknado" took the ...

The film aired last Thursday night on SyFy, and only 1.4 million watched, but there were more than 5000 tweets-per-minute about the b-movie between 8pm and 3am on the night of its debut, grossing over 604,000 in total, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

And now SyFy is riding that buzz, announcing that they're working on "Sharknado 2."

Ghost Shark
Just when you thought SyFy's recent Sharknado got all the sharks out of the water and it was safe to go back in, they've got more sharks in store for us.

The channel had a big hit with "Sharknado" which stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, last week (they're airing it again this Thursday night!); and the net is set to follow that up with more sharks -- well, actually just one. A dead one.

"Ghost Shark" is set to make its debut on August 22, and judging by the buzz surrounding "Sharknado" it sounds like they'll have another camp classic on their hands.

"Sharknado" pulled in 1.4 million viewer...

Cassie Scerbo: 'Cast thought Sharknado was a joke'

July 14th, 2013 8:41pm EDT
Cassie Scerbo
Actresses Tara Reid and Cassie Scerbo thought the director of their monster movie was playing a joke on them when he told them he was changing the title to Sharknado.

The film, about a freak storm which scoops up man-eating sharks in tornadoes and deposits them in cities, became an unlikely phenomenon after it aired on TV in America on Thursday (11Jul13), taking Twitter by storm and earning a legion of fans.

However, Bring It On star Scerbo has revealed the film was originally called Dark Skies, but had be changed after a horror movie of the same name hit cinemas in February (13), and she...

SyFy's 'Sharknado' Is A Huge Hit -- On Twitter

July 12th, 2013 3:01pm EDT
Thanks to the magic of Twitter, Thursday night's epic SyFy schlockfest "Sharknado" became a huge trend, but don't expect it to be a hit in the ratings.

The twitterverse was buzzing with anticipation for the campy horror flick, about thousands of sharks migrating up the Pacific coast because of a hurricane, only to meet with tornadoes formed in the nearby desert and get sucked into the twisters and then dropped all over the Los Angeles area to wreak havoc... and eat lots of people.

And parts of people.

Ian Ziering and Tara Reid turned in some of their best on-screen performances (not), wh...

July 11th, 2013 5:01pm EDT
Forget Dr. Evil's wish for "sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads" in Austin Powers, SyFy has one-upped the villain with its latest made-for-TV horror b-movie "Sharknado."

Tara Reid, Ian Ziering and Cassie Scerbo star in the latest monster mash-up, about a hurricane driving sharks to migrate to the waters off Los Angeles, where a tornado is brewing. The result? The tornado picks thousands of sharks out of the water and deposits them throughout L.A., causing mass hysteria and lot (LOTS) of bloodletting.

Appropriately-named beachside bar owner Fin (Ziering) teams up with ...
