Funnyman Jack Black is still pinching himself after his comedy idol Eric Idle agreed to be a part of the School Of Rock star's inaugural Festival Supreme.

He says, "I can't even believe Eric Idle said yes. We asked him thinking, 'He's not gonna do it' - and now he's doing it."

Dewey Finn (Jack Black), “School of Rock” (2003)

Dewey Finn may have been a rowdy, unemployed wannabe rock star, but after scheming his way into the classroom he became a new kind of role model. Dewey taught his students the true meaning of rock ‘n’ roll and encouraged them to rock out in every aspect of their lives.

Memorable Quote: “I have been touched by your kids... and I'm pretty sure that I've touched them.”

School Of Rock
The world's least-employable heavy metal guitarist is entrusted with the minds of upstate New York's best and brightest in the fish-out-of-water comedy "School Of Rock."

Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, axe-bearer for a fitfully successful bar band determined to win a regional battle-of-the-bands competition. There's only one thing standing in their way: the self-indulgent solos and crowd-diving antics of their "embarrassing" lead guitarist.

When his band votes him out in favor of a would-be rock god, Dewey has to make the rent somehow, and after intercepting a call for his substitute-teacher...

Jack Black Commits Mild-Mannered Murder In 'Bernie'

March 1st, 2012 9:11am EST
Jack Black is just your average friendly neighborhood killer -- complete with ultra-moustache.

Black and his "School of Rock" director, Richard Linklater, have reunited for "Bernie," a pitch-black crime comedy based on a real-life 1996 murder case in Carthage, Texas.

Black plays the title role, a mortician whose reputation as the nicest guy in town doesn't get tarnished too much after he offs an elderly millionaire widow (Shirley MacLaine), an intolerable shrew whom most of the townsfolk believe had it coming.

The trailer doesn't make "Bernie" look like anything special, but it's good t...

Rockin' and Reelin': Seven Spectacular Movie Concerts

July 7th, 2009 10:00am EDT
School of Rock
Pull out your lighter, turn up the volume, and get ready to throw up the horns. This jammin' compilation is my top seven compilation of climactic movie concerts. Why seven? Seven is a nice odd number.

When I first decided to form a list of top movie concerts, I thought having a wealth of film knowledge would help me out. Sitting down to draft the list however, I found myself at a loss for ideas. I couldn't see the forest for the trees, and plots sat jumbled together in my head.

After thinking for a few days and taking a stroll through my neighborhood Blockbuster's going out of bu...

The Best & Worst Of Jack Black

June 23rd, 2009 11:25am EDT
Year One
If only life were so simple as to allow enjoyable Jack Black be noticeably different than awful Jack Black. Perhaps the slightly thinner, slightly less beardy version of him could be the best version of him and the more unshaven and huskier version could be the worst version of him, or vice versa; something, anything, that would allow the audience to know what not to waste their time on.

Yes, if only life were this simple.

Sadly, it's not, otherwise I would not have recently lost 97 minutes of my life to Black's latest film, "Year One". While having its moments coming mainly fro...

Spotlight On Extras Who Made It Big As Actors

December 2nd, 2008 10:18am EST
George Clooney
Sometimes an actor comes along who just has a certain something that makes you want to stop and watch. He may just be in the background - where the job, really, is to be natural but not cause any attention to themselves or take away from the action in the forefront of the scene - but his magnetism may be enough to draw the eye over and back, making the viewer want to know more about the character he is supposed to be playing.

Chances are, however, if audiences are noticing this guy so are producers and casting directors, and soon he may be rewarded with a few lines here and there, bum...

Movies With Heart: The 100 Best 'Romdramedies' Of The Past 20 Years

April 17th, 2008 8:00am EDT
There's the quintessential romantic comedy, and then there's the romdramedy. Similar to a dramedy (in which there is an equal balance of humor and serious content), a romdramedy combines comedy and drama with that mushy thing we call romance.

This is not a list of the best films over the past 20 years. Rather it is a list that gives preferences to those films that best combine all three elements - romance, comedy and drama.

Films like Magnolia and The Matrix were barred from competition, while films like Down with Love were considered (however, that one didn't make the cut)....

Heavyweight funnyman Jack Black loves his Hollywood's Most Unlikely Sex Symbol tag because it proves humor is indeed the best aphrodisiac. Black has played the lead in a number of films, including Shallow Hal and School Of Rock, despite not possessing conventional Hollywood leading man looks.

The star believes it's because he is seen as more attainable to cinemagoers compared to sex symbols Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
