31 Days Of Horror: 'Saw' (2004)

October 20th, 2010 2:07pm EDT
Saw
Ever since Saw came out way back in 2004, I’ve heard nothing but belly aching from movie-goers and horror-goons alike over how the movie ushered in a new era of gore-porn. That because of Saw, as well as Hostel, its pseudo sister-movie, all horror movies started to forgo any attempt at story telling in favor of graphic depictions of peoples’ heads getting shoved into bear-traps or corn threshers. I also recall it being quite buzzed about before its release, only to be met with cold to tepid reviews upon its actual release. So, keeping its reputation in mind, I skipped past watching Saw, Saw...

Spain Drops X-Rating On 'Saw VI'

August 4th, 2010 12:12am EDT
Saw VI
Horror movie "Saw VI" will finally be released in Spain this October after producers cut several of the gory sequel's most violent scenes to secure a more universal rating in the country.

The sixth installment of the popular franchise was slapped with an X rating by Spanish film censors last year, meaning it could only be shown in theatres which allowed porn.

Its release in Spain was postponed and "Saw VI's" producers went back to the cutting room to re-edit the release.

They have now adhered to the rules set out by officials at the film institute, a unit of the culture ministry, who dem...

'X' Rating for 'Saw VI' Is An Overreaction

October 28th, 2009 11:00am EDT
Saw VI
By this time, nearly everyone has heard that Saw VI will be given an "X" rating in Spain. This means that Saw VI will not be released nationwide; instead, it will be limited to the eight theaters in all of Spain that are licensed to show "pornographic" material. Apparently, the violence and gore in this movie is so disturbing that it needs to be relegated to those dirty, back-alley places that most people associate with hourly motels and men who look like Ron Jeremy. This, of course, begs the question: What in the hell is wrong with Spain?

There simply isn't any justification for censori...

October 28th, 2009 10:00am EDT
Jason
When you think of horror movies, you think of suspense, blood and gore, and serial killers. There have been many great horror movies with some scary serial killers. Some of them include the mysterious tape in The Ring, death in Final Destination, and Lindsay Lohan in Herbie Fully Loaded. Alright, Herbie Fully Loaded wasn't a horror movie and Lindsay Lohan wasn't a serial killer in it, but a number of people had a heart attack while watching that horrible movie. Anyway, there are six main serial killers who come to mind when we think of horror movies. They are:

Freddy Krueger (Nightmare o...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Saw VI,' 'Vampire's Assistant' & More

Last Tuesday, I had a chance to see "Where the Wild Things Are." Visually the film is stunning; it integrates handheld camera shots in the appropriate moments to take viewers into the action. Jim Henson's Creature Shop makes the monsters of the movie look incredibly convincing, and the composite animation of their faces matches up well.

Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers do a fantastic job of stretching a 10 page children's book into a movie that doesn't distort the message of the book, but still gives audiences something fresh. One of the most fascinating aspects of the creatures the hero M...

With summer coming to an end, there's one major thing to consider: what's going to be entertaining for the next three months? We assume you're thinking the same thing (great minds being alike and all), so here's the rundown of what Hollywood has coming:

Gamer will be one of the coolest movies of the season because it actually manages to bring a fairly new concept to the action genre. In the near future, with mind control technology pretty much commonplace, billionaire Ken Castle (Michael...
