A former police officer is attempting to end Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds' run at the top of the box office by launching a lawsuit against the producers of their hit thriller "Safe House."

Retired Chicago, Illinois cop Marty Christopher Lawson is requesting an injunction to stop Universal executives from further distributing the movie, which hit the top of the film charts last week.

He claims the plot of and characters in the film were stolen from his book, "Truth or Treason," which detailed his efforts to uncover an alleged police conspiracy.

Predictable Plot but Exciting Action in 'Safe House'

February 12th, 2012 4:34pm EST
Matt Weston in Safe House
At this point, the plot arcs for espionage thrillers are pretty unsurprising, and Daniel Espinosa’s “Safe House” is no different. There’s a rogue spy who is chased by his old agency for his incriminating knowledge of said organization’s dirty dealings. A wary colleague teams up with him, and once trust is built, they start working together.

Even though puns could be made about the title “Safe House,” in reference to its cautious decision to stick with a proven formula, we’ll forgo them, since predictability is the only major faux pas that the film commits.

Any other annoying bits are m...

The Best Of Denzel Washington

With “Safe House” in theaters this weekend, audiences will get to see Denzel Washington as a rogue CIA agent who might possibly be the most dangerous man on the planet. Washington, who has been impressing audiences for over two decades, is one of the rare actors in Hollywood who can successfully portray a character that doesn’t easily fit into either the “good guy” or “bad guy” category.

Even a cursory glance at his filmography, one can easily see the varied career Washington has had. To recognize one of the most talented actors of his generation, here are some of Washington’s most memorab...

Two Jews on Film - Joan Alperin Schwartz: Rogue agent Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington) has been off the grid for the past ten years and he's been on the CIA'S most wanted list for the last decade.

Out of the blue, Tobin turns himself in, he's transported to Weston's safe house and the novice operative gets his wish... and then some.

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
It turned out that my initial optimism about “The Woman in Black” last week was for naught. Unfortunately it is a ridiculous horror movie that made me laugh much more than it actually scared me. For more on why I thought it was silly, check out my review.

This week in theaters, there will be a nice mix of action, romance, adventure, and drama. You’ll have the chance to see Denzel Washington’s action thriller “Safe House,” the tragic Rachel McAdams romance picture “The Vow,” the lighthearted adventure film “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” the Woody Harrelson Los Angeles cop drama “R...

If you’re family is like mine, you probably got one for Christmas. I have an aunt who has given on to me every year since I was seven. Each time I open the wrapping paper and feign surprise, as if my present could have been anything else. The first few times she gave me this turd of a gift, I hung it dutifully on my wall for the entire year. Each time I looked at it, I would wonder how Chocolate Labradors or Monster Trucks define me as a person (News Flash: They don’t). Now, as soon as she leaves the room, I throw my gift right in the trash without even a modicum of guilt. Still don’t know ...
