The Greatest Movies From The 70s
The 1970s. The era of disco, bell bottom jeans, and phenomenal moviemaking. Hollywood’s golden age surged in the seventies, a time where gifted filmmakers carved their niche in the studio system and created films unlike anything seen before. From maverick moviemakers who created their penultimate masterpieces to the birth of the modern Hollywood blockbuster amongst a sea of commercial duds, the seventies were one of the hottest times in filmmaking even in the wake of the Cold War. Actor Sylvester Stallone cannot wait until his Rocky musical adaptation hits the Broadway stage, because he's been working on the project for 14 years.

The action man, who created and starred in the classic boxing film franchise, teamed up with champion boxing brothers Vladimir and Vitali Klitschko to bring his classic 1976 film to the theatre audiences.

The production debuted in Hamburg, Germany last year (Nov12) and after winning favourable reviews, it is now set to transfer to New York's Winter Garden Theatre for previews in February (14).

The Wire star Michael B. Jordan is reportedly in talks to play fictitious boxer Apollo Creed's grandson in the latest Rocky revamp.

Jordan will reteam with his Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler if he signs on for the project, titled Creed.

In the film his character, a young boxer, seeks out his grandfather's one-time rival, Rocky Balboa, and asks the retired champion to train him.

Academy Award-winning film Rocky is headed to Broadway after a deal was reached to bring a musical version to the prestigious New York stage.

Sylvester Stallone, who wrote and starred in the 1976 film, gave Germany the first look at the musical in November to positive reviews.

According to the New York Times, the Broadway show will cost $15 million to produce, after a $20 million in development fees to bring the show to Germany first.

Sylvester Stallone has abandoned plans to make his sequel to The Expendables more family-friendly by toning down the violence and bad language.

It emerged in January that the Rocky star was eyeing a PG-13 rating for the action movie amid rumors cast member Chuck Norris had requested no cursing in the script.

Fans of the first film feared the development meant the hard-hitting movie would be toned down for a younger audience - but Stallone, who writes and stars in The Expendables 2, has now revealed the sequel will have a restricted 'R' rating after all.

Rocky star Sylvester Stallone has raised $100,000 for the fight against diabetes.

The Hollywood veteran made a personal appearance at a fundraising event in Hamilton, Ontario last month in aid of the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The event, dubbed An Evening with Sylvester Stallone, featured the movie legend discussing his career, and during his speech the actor confirmed rumors he's closed the door on his famous boxing franchise, telling the audience, "Rocky is done."

Organizers revealed the event drew donations of $100,000 for the charity.

Celebrity couple Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber are to team up in new boxing movie The Bleeder.

Schreiber will reportedly play New Jersey heavyweight Chuck Wepner, who was dubbed "The Real Rocky," in the film.

Wepner famously stood up to Muhammad Ali in his prime in 1975 and became the inspiration for Sylvester Stallone's Rocky film.

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks is also on board the biopic, which is currently being shopped around at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Rocky star Carl Weathers' third marriage appears to have ended after just 17 months - the actor has filed for divorce.

Weathers, who played boxing champ Apollo Creed in the fight franchise, filed for divorce from wife Jennifer Peterson in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences. In court papers obtained by, Weathers also requested the judge order Peterson to pay for his legal fees.

Weathers married documentary filmmaker Peterson in a beach ceremony in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last year.
