Russell Crowe Is No Longer A Sex Symbol

July 27th, 2010 11:45am EDT
Russell Crowe
The brooding Russell Crowe, 46, really made an impression on his fans when he hit the big screen as Maximus in "Gladiator" 10 years ago. Unlike George Clooney (who has somehow aged to perfection at age 49), Russ looks a little too tubby and a little too gray around the temples.

Crowe's recent big-screen adventure "Robin Hood" had a disappointing performance at the box office. His rep was forced to shoot down reports that the actor was digitally slimmed down for the role. The National Enquirer alleged, "Crowe just couldn't manage to drop the last 10 to 15 pounds he'd packed on, and producer...

Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe's representative has dismissed rumors the actor was digitally slimmed-down for his latest role as Robin Hood.

The Oscar-winner plays the English folk hero in Ridley Scott's re-imagining of the classic tale, and recent reports claimed movie bosses spent "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in post-production to make a burly Crowe appear slimmer onscreen.

The National Enquirer alleged, "Crowe just couldn't manage to drop the last 10 to 15 pounds he'd packed on, and producers were horrified by several scenes where he looked totally fat."

However, Crowe's spokesperson has brus...

The "Sex And The City" girls can rely on their fans in the U.K. - their movie sequel has strutted to the top of the British box office, just days after failing to excite U.S. cinemagoers.

But Brit devotees of the hit TV series-turned-movie franchise flocked to catch the return of Carrie Bradshaw.

The sequel shot to the top of the box office with a $9.2 million opening weekend.

Russell Crowe Storms Out Of 'Robin Hood' Interview

May 14th, 2010 9:05am EDT
Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe angrily stormed out of a British radio interview on Wednesday, after the host told the actor his accent in Robin Hood sounded Irish.

The famously short-tempered Oscar-winner was chatting to broadcaster Mark Lawson for BBC Radio 4's Front Row show, when he was asked if he purposely added hints of the Irish dialect to his portrayal of the English folklore hero. An infuriated Crowe angrily questioned Lawson's opinion - before swearing at him.

Lawson asked the star, "The accent you've given him (Robin Hood). There are hints to me of Irish, but what.... were you thinking in tho...

The New 'Robin Hood': Did It Need A Remake?

May 12th, 2010 9:20am EDT
Robn Hood - Dit it need a remake
Robin Hood is one of the most famous folklore heroes of all time, and the first rhymes and stories about the noble outlaw go as far back as the 14th century. He is typically known as a follower of King Richard II, the Lionheart, and his enemies are the Sheriff of Nottingham and the ambitious Prince John. In time Robin Hood had a whole gang behind him with names as famous as his, like Little John, Will Scarlet, Friar Tuck, and Maid Marian. In most tales he chose to rob from the rich to give to the poor, fighting the greed of the upper classes with his bow, and over the past few centuries thi...

Russell Crowe Hated Kevin Costner's 'Robin Hood'

May 10th, 2010 5:30pm EDT
Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe watched previous adaptations of the Robin Hood story to inspire his latest big screen outing - and hated Kevin Costner's turn as the folk hero.

The Gladiator star plays the legendary character in Ridley Scott's upcoming blockbuster and he studied other incarnations of the role to help shape his portrayal of the action man. And he admits Costner's 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves wasn't one he liked.

He says, "I watched the Richard Greene TV series when I was a kid. When you see the episodes now, they're a bit creaky, and it's basically the same story every week. I s...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Robin Hood,' 'Letters to Juliet,' & More

May 10th, 2010 9:40am EDT
Letters To Juliet
Last week “Iron Man 2” totally blew my expectations out of the water, to be equally as enjoyable as its predecessor. It reuses the same formula as the original to achieve success: lighthearted banter, eye-popping special effects, and exciting action sequences. That being said, it’s not a boring carbon copy of the original because it introduces new characters and new challenges for the character Tony Stark. For further comments, check out my review.

May’s second week delivers just three new films to theaters: Ridley Scott’s action epic “Robin Hood,” the romantic dramedy “Letters to Julie...

Russell Crowe Nearly Quit 'Robin Hood'

April 5th, 2010 9:38am EDT
Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe nearly quit his role in the upcoming Robin Hood movie after the first draft of the script painted the legendary British outlaw as a villain.

The project, originally titled Nottingham, was marred with problems when production began in 2007, with movie bosses forced to halt work while scriptwriters reworked the story. Sienna Miller was originally cast as Maid Marian, but was axed in favor of Cate Blanchett, and the title was changed to Robin Hood.

Filming eventually began in 2008 and wrapped last year, and Crowe admits he's glad movie bosses agreed to rework the project - be...

After being plagued by re-writes and casting problems, Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe's latest historical epic is to open the legendary Cannes Film Festival.

Robin Hood has certainly had its problems - at one point, someone floated the idea of Russell Crowe playing both the Sheriff of Nottingham and the titular character. Injuries to both actors and set workers have also plagued the production.

Still, the action-packed film is hoping to repeat the success of Scott and Crowe's Gladiator. That film picked up five Academy Awards despite being released in May - the same month Robin Hood hits ...
