The Rite
Inspired by true events, th supernatural thriller The Rite follows a seminary student (Colin O'Donoghue) sent to study exorcism at the Vatican in spite of his own doubts about the controversial practice and even his own faith.

Only when sent to apprentice with legendary Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who has performed thousand of exorcisms, does his armor of skepticism begin to fall.

Drawn into a troubling case that seems to transcend even Father Lucas's skill, the young seminarian glimpses a phenomenon science can't explain or control - and an evil so violent and terrifying that it forc...

The Roommate
Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester's new thriller "The Roommate" has scared up big business at the box office - the film has debuted at number one.

The movie took in $15.6 million in its opening weekend to finish well ahead of director James Cameron's latest 3D offering "Sanctum," which scored a weak $9.2 million first weekend take.

Last week's number one movie "The Rite" drops to six, while romantic comedy "No Strings Attached" rounds out the new top three.

I caught screenings of two movies that opened last week: “The Rite” with Anthony Hopkins and “The Mechanic” with Jason Statham. My first impression was that I would like “The Rite” better than “The Mechanic” however the reverse was actually the case. If you haven’t already read my review of “The Rite” check my gripes about it.

While “The Mechanic” is not a thinking man’s movie, it’s a mindless action flick that knows how to cater to its target audience. There are some entertaining fight sequences and a few great one-liners which is all you can really ask for from this type of film. My ...

Anthony Hopkins Is Like Lecter Without The Leash In 'The Rite'

The Rite
Ever since “The Blair Witch Project” (1999), the horror genre has been increasing its attempts at realism to create chills. This is because for today’s audiences, the more believable that the story is, the scarier watching the film can be. Some horror flicks pass on documentary shooting style, preferring to throw around the phrase “inspired by true events” to add legitimacy instead.

Mikael Håfström’s exorcism thriller “The Rite” is primary example of this trend because it is not a documentary, but it claims to be based on a true story. Since the film fails to establish credibility thou...

Review: 'The Rite' 'Two Jews On Film' Aren't Feeling The Spirit (Video)

The Rite
'The Rite' is a supernatural thriller inspired by true events. The film follows seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue) who is sent to the Vatican to study exorcism. Michael is a man with many doubts...not only about demon possession but about his own calling. He challenges his superiors to look to psychiatry, rather than demons in treating the possessed.

When Michael arrives in Rome he is order to apprentice with the unorthodox Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins) a legendary priest who has performed thousands of exorcisms. Michael is resistant, questioning Father Lucas at every ...

The Rite
Last week I did not have an opportunity to watch any additional Oscar contenders from 2010, but this week I have “Winter's Bone” and “The Town” arriving from Netflix so I'm excited to catch them. Aside from those, the only other major films from 2010 that I still need to see are “The Fighter” and “The King's Speech.”

Arriving in theaters this week are the Jason Statham hitman flick “The Mechanic,” the Anthony Hopkins exorcism tale “The Rite,” the Javier Bardem Spanish drama “Biutiful,” and the Latin romantic comedy “From Prada to Nada.” I will be attending screenings of “The Rite” and “T...
