June 25th, 2012 8:09am EDT
Brave
Unsurprisingly, Pixar animated film "Brave" ruled the box office over the weekend, taking in $66.7 million. The film is the 13th-straight Pixar release to open at number one since "Toy Story" was released in 1995.

"Brave," which features the first female lead in the company's history, centers on an impetuous princess named Merida (played by Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald) who discovers that a choice she makes puts both her family and her father's kingdom in peril.

The film bumped animated film "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" to the number two slot on the weekend countdown. It too...

Prep for 'Prometheus' with 'The Book of Alien' and 'Colonial Marines Technical Manual'

June 10th, 2012 11:00am EDT
Book of Alien
In 1979, director Ridley Scott revolutionized the sci-fi genre with his landmark film Alien. The movie’s realistic future mixed with Swiss artist H.R. Giger’s grotesque alien design, terrified viewers. Using Scott and Giger’s work as a foundation, James Cameron created the action-packed sequel Aliens in 1986. Although Cameron’s film concentrated less on horror, he introduced equally grounded and imaginative technology to the same universe.

Sadly the franchise declined with the following sequels, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. However this weekend, Ridley Scott hopes to revitalize science...

'Alien' Left Michael Fassbender 'Disturbed' As A Child

June 6th, 2012 3:11pm EDT
Michael Fassbender
Michael Fassbender has never forgiven his parents for letting him watch Alien as a child, because the creepy movie left him "disturbed".

The actor, who stars in Alien-inspired film Prometheus, was so frightened by the 1979 sci-fi horror movie he grew convinced his body could be infiltrated by extraterrestrial beings and his life would come to a gruesome end.

He tells the Chicago Sun-Times, "My parents allowed me to see it for some reason, which was odd because they were very strict. For some reason, they had no problem with their child seeing creatures bursting out of the chests of human ...

Review: 'Prometheus' - A Film You'll Remember Long After The Credits Roll

June 4th, 2012 7:04pm EDT
Prometheus
What if you had the chance to meet the people who created you? And by you I mean the human race. Could you resist such an opportunity?

Two brilliant scientists, the intense, religious Dr. Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and the very unspiritual Dr. Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) certainly can't. Not after they discover a series of cave paintings that turn out to be a star map, left by several ancient Earth civilizations that points to the same location in distant space.

They believe that they found the planet that is home to the engineers of the human race. And Shaw and Holloway are determined to p...

Trailer Talk: Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Could Be This Summer's Next Big Blockbuster & More

June 4th, 2012 1:02pm EDT
Prometheus
Arriving in theaters this week are Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi vehicle “Prometheus,” the silly computer animated sequel “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” the coming-of-age comedy “Lola Versus,” the indie time travel comedy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” the period piece drama “Bel Ami,” the family relationship dramedy “Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding,” and Todd Solondz’s drama “Dark Horse.”

Unfortunately my pick from last week, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” was plagued by bad acting, lackluster action scenes, and farfetched concepts even for a fairy tale. Not only was it diff...

MPAA Gives 'Prometheus' An R Rating After Ridley Scott Refuses To Cut Gory Scenes

May 8th, 2012 11:23pm EDT
Prometheus
Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi film Prometheus will be released in the U.S. with a restrictive R rating after the director decided against cutting gory footage from the movie to please censors.

Officials from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) ruled the picture, starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce, was too violent for young theater-goers and suggested an edit be made if Scott wanted to secure a lower rating to appeal to those 17 and below.

But the filmmaker has chosen to leave the final cut of Prometheus as it is - and as such, only viewers over the a...

Can 'Avengers,' 'Dark Knight Rises,' And 'Amazing Spider-Man' Make 2012 The Best Movie Summer Ever?

May 2nd, 2012 2:07pm EDT
The Avengers
The movie industry earned $4.3 billion last summer at the U.S. box office to make it the best summer ever (I thought piracy was killing the industry?) but don't expect the mark to last for long. There's a team of superhero movies coming along, and each one could break records.

The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers look to score over $400 million each and should be boosted with IMAX and 3D premiums. Thus far, The Avengers have already made $218 million overseas. There's also PIXAR's Brave and The Amazing Spider-Man - Pixar is always good for a cash infusion, but we'll have to wait and see ...

New 'Prometheus' Trailer Reveals The Aliens

April 30th, 2012 5:07pm EDT
Prometheus
A new extended trailer has been released for Prometheus, and it has revealed the aliens the crew face when they touch down on an unnamed planet.

Part of the reveal is the reason why these astronauts landed on the planet; it appears a pictogram has been discovered at numerous locations that is actually a star map... or an invitation. The data on the planet could lead humanity to the story of its origins.

The crew comes into contact with a cobra-like appendage that fells one of the scientists. It's then that they realize they could have found something that could end their existence.

If ...

Most Anticipated Movies of 2012
If you’re family is like mine, you probably got one for Christmas. I have an aunt who has given on to me every year since I was seven. Each time I open the wrapping paper and feign surprise, as if my present could have been anything else. The first few times she gave me this turd of a gift, I hung it dutifully on my wall for the entire year. Each time I looked at it, I would wonder how Chocolate Labradors or Monster Trucks define me as a person (News Flash: They don’t). Now, as soon as she leaves the room, I throw my gift right in the trash without even a modicum of guilt. Still don’t know ...

Though he is still relatively unknown to most audiences right now, after this weekend Michael Fassbender will officially be one of the biggest movie stars in the world.
