Where the Wild Things Are
Spike Jonze aficionados have been waiting a long time to see his latest project "Where the Wild Things Are" come to fruition. The release has been delayed over a year while Jonze fought through creative differences with Warner Brothers to make a picture both loyal to the Maurice Sendak's book and appealing to the general public.

In addition to Jonze's dark imaginary childhood tale, the films coming to theaters this week include "The Stepfather," "Law Abiding Citizen," "New York, I Love You," and "Black Dynamite."

5 Horror Remakes We'd Like To See

September 11th, 2009 12:14pm EDT
Phantasm
With "Sorority Row" hitting theatres today - a remake of the 1983 slasher classic - it truly seems as if every horror property of the last 30 years has been given a do-over.

From big names (Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers) to cult classics ("Prom Night," "The Hills Have Eyes," "The Last House on the Left"), horror remakes are big business.

But believe it or not, there are a few horror properties out there that haven't been touched, and more importantly, have the potential to be improved by being remade.

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)

At the time of its 1984 release, this fil...

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: 'Twilight' Stars, 'Hills' Cast & More

June 1st, 2009 8:39am EDT
Kristen Stewart
MTV's awards shows have become something of a spectacle in the last few years from controversial performances to surprise celebrity events leading up to and surrounding the actual show. That would explain why neither this year's MTV Movie Awards host Andy Samberg nor "We Made You" performer Eminem, had time to walk the red carpet at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios Citywalk last night.

Those that did smile and pose for paparazzi and walk the line of nearly 200 media outlets all hoping to steal a precious few minutes with the talent included the other musical act, Kings of ...

Unrealistic Prom Scenes On Film

May 27th, 2009 2:22pm EDT
Carrie
It's called by many names in cinema, but the big high school dance, the one where Cinderellas step out in glass slippers and the ugly ducklings start singing their swan songs, is generally known as Prom. They take place everywhere from gymnasiums to four-star hotels, but frequently end in drunkenness and frustrated hopes of losing one's virginity. Here are few examples of Prom Nights that give high school juniors and seniors everywhere unrealistic expectations, and what you can learn from them:

Carrie. Based on Stephen King's novel, this classic horror film teaches us not to make...

Things Are Looking Grim For 'Nightmare On Elm Street' Remake

February 24th, 2009 10:33am EST
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Starpulse writer Kris King has a few choice words for Platinum Dunes, the horror production company behind the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street remake:

Dear Platinum Dunes,

First of all, nice work on your Friday the 13th reboot/sequel/remake - you managed to make a new Jason movie that neither disregarded its roots nor shot anyone into space on a straight-to-video budget.

With the hype surrounding Jason's return to Crystal Lake dissipating, news about your next bank run remake is pouring in. Having tackled Leatherface, 112 Ocean Avenue, and whatever the bad guy's name wa...

Collins Pennie
Growing up in numerous foster homes and moving out on your own at the age of 15 can be difficult to say the least. Ending up in Hollywood on the big screen shows determination and that anything is possible.

Horror-ible Remakes: Why Horror Film Do Overs Often Fail

October 28th, 2008 10:27am EDT
Prom Night
Hollywood seemingly goes through the horror section of a video store to find films they can exploit for a quick profit. This year there was Prom Night, The Eye, Shutter, and One Missed Call, to name a few. Studios continue to produce remakes while attempting to best the originals, but they are not always concerned about quality. What makes these remakes so terrible? (Warning: possible spoilers ahead).

Failure to Change What Was Bad to Begin With

Not all remakes are bad, but there are select films that never were that original to begin with. The original Prom Night (1980) starring...

Early Oscar Predictions

September 12th, 2008 10:29am EDT
The Dark Knight
With today's release of the Coen Brothers' "Burn After Reading" we can officially declare Oscar season open.

The movie has everything that Oscar loves: big stars who are actually good actors (three of them Oscar winners), an Oscar pedigree team behind the scenes, and a release in the fall. While this broad comedy may not exactly be Oscar bait, it does serve as a good line of demarcation between films released purely for profit and those released to win awards (and mostly to make money).

Even though a large majority of awards contenders are released in the fall, there are always a...
