Box Office Predictions: ‘Bad Grandpa’ Will Make An Impact

October 25th, 2013 10:42pm EDT
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
1) Bad Grandpa- 35M Weekend, 35M Total

Entering into a rather serious Top 10 is Bad Grandpa, which is looking to draw in an underserved comedy audience. Specifically, the young male comedy audience. This strategy has worked well for the Jackass films in the past. Jackass 3D opened to 50M, Jackass 2 did 29M. Bad Grandpa is tracking well, and will dominate due to a lack of direct competition.

2) Gravity- 21M Weekend, 200M Total

Gravity is looking to crack 200M this weekend. Another 30% drop to 21M will put it in striking distance. A pretty amazing feat for a film in October, starring only ...

Box Office: 'Gravity' Should Prevail Over 'Carrie' Remake

October 18th, 2013 11:10am EDT
Gravity
1) Gravity- 31M Weekend, 165M Total

After dipping a mere 22% last week, Gravity is actually gaining back some of the IMAX screens it lost to Captain Phillips. Another similar drop for Gravity should keep it firmly in first place.

2) Carrie- 18M Weekend, 18M Total

The problem with Carrie is that it is a remake. And they’ve tried to bring Carrie back before (anyone remember Carrie 2?) and it hasn’t worked out well for anyone. The preview makes it seem like critics are loving it, but it only has a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. It should do OK this weekend, but I don’t think it’s a smash hit.

3) ...

Hugh Jackman Up For The Fight With Jake Gyllenhaal

September 26th, 2013 7:15pm EDT
Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal tried to fight each other before shooting 'Prisoners'.

The Hollywood stars - who play Keller Dover (Jackman) and Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal) in the thriller - see their characters go head-to-head when two young girls are kidnapped in broad daylight and to really understand their roles, the pair used to practice bickering with each other.

The story revolves around carpenter Keller who sees his daughter and his neighbors' offspring snatched from a quiet suburb over Thanksgiving.

Detective Loki quickly closes in on creepy Alex Jones (Paul Dano) but then rele...

'Prisoners': The Best Film Of The Year (So Far)

September 23rd, 2013 1:20pm EDT
http://starpulse.media.baselineresearch.com/images/751001/751001
I’m a little late to the praise party for Prisoners, so you’ve probably already read reviews claiming this is the best film of the year, or that it is an incredibly tense film, and it will make you question life as you know it. My version of that would be that Prisoners is easily the best film of the year (so far), a clear Oscar contender, with career best performances from Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. It is a relentless film, consistently edge of your seat, with several twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Keller (Jackman) and his wife (Bello) and son (Minnette) take their daughter...

Weekend Box Office: 'Prisoners' Takes An Easy First

September 23rd, 2013 8:36am EDT
Prisoners
The well reviewed Hugh Jackman pic beat expectations and was crowned the champion (by a long shot). It should play well over the coming weeks with increasing awards buzz. The film received a B+ cinemascore, so word of mouth will be good, but not The Butler sized.

1) Prisoners- 21.4M Weekend, 21.4M Total

2) Insidious: Chapter 2- 14.2M Weekend, 50.5M Total

The horror sequel dipped 64% in week two, pretty typical for this genre. A third installment has already been ordered, as the sequel will definitely outgross the original.

3) The Family- 7.0M Weekend, 25.6M Total

Robert DeNiro’s limpin...

Hugh Jackman researched real desperate dads for abduction movie

September 22nd, 2013 8:41pm EDT
Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman studied real accounts of child abductions from desperate dads to prepare for his role in new film Prisoners, and he reveals he learned valuable lessons about fatherhood in the transcripts.

The movie star, who has two adopted kids, plays a parent searching for his kidnapped daughter in the film, and admits his research gave him a real sense of what it must be like to lose your children.

The Wolverine star says, "One father said... 'The most maddening thing is knowing that your child is waiting for you and can't understand why you're not there to protect them, why you're not th...

Review: 'Prisoners' A Dark, Disturbing, Twisted, And Must See Film

September 21st, 2013 7:21am EDT
'Prisoners'
From the moment 'Prisoners', directed by Denis Villeneuve began, I knew I was about to see a film that was really, really good. And I was not disappointed.

In fact, by the time the end-credits rolled, I was actually feeling 'creeped-out (in a good way, if that's possible) and that feeling stayed with me for several hours.

The film, written by Aaron Guzikowski ('Contraband') is a dark, twisted, thrilling ride about the very important subject of child abduction.

If you're wondering why would anyone want to see a movie about that subject - that is unfortunately in the news practically every...

Meet 'Prisoners' Star Kyla-Drew Simmons

September 20th, 2013 5:14pm EDT
Kyla-Drew Simmons
If you're going to the new Hugh Jackman flick Prisoners today, you'll be seeing young actress Kyla-Drew Simmons. She plays Joy Birch, the daughter of Franklin Birch (Terrence Howard) and Eliza Birch (Zoe Borde), who is abducted on Thanksgiving along with her best friend Anna Dover (Erin Gerasimovich). BFTV snagged a few minutes with Kyla-Drew recently to talk about her pivotal role in a big movie.

"It was great," she told us of the experience. "My favorite part was getting to meet the cast and crew - getting to meet the big, big stars." Aside from Jackman and Howard, Prisoners also stars J...

Review: 'Prisoners' Is One Of The Best Thrillers In Years

September 20th, 2013 3:00pm EDT
Prisoners
In A Nutshell: If you can stomach the film's intense and graphic scenes, the film is worth it!  Prisoners is 2013's ”Silence of the Lambs.” It is that damn good!

At first glance, Prisoners may seem nothing more than a dark, cliché and an unoriginal thriller. There is nothing new about the all too common story of child abduction and the havoc it wreaks on families and communities. But Canadian director Denis Villeneuve avoids all the pitfalls of having a big budget Hollywood debut (he received an Oscar nomination for his first foreign-language film Incendies) and delivers a truly riveting,...

Hugh Jackman to reopen agent's new Iowa cinema

September 18th, 2013 8:42pm EDT
Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman will help reopen a forgotten Iowa cinema after his agent Patrick Whitesell took over the old place and renovated it.

The William Morris Endeavor co-CEO and his father spent almost $600,000 (£400,000) to buy and revamp the bankrupt Iowa Falls Metropolitan Opera House, and it will relaunch this month (Sep13) with his client Jackman's new film Prisoners.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whitesell was just six years old when his father took him to see Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory at the local cinema and he has been a fan of the theatre ever since.

When he learned boss...

Jake Gyllenhaal had to get to grips with snakes on the set of new film

September 17th, 2013 8:42pm EDT
Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman doubled as snake wranglers on the set of their new movie Prisoners after a case of reptiles was set loose.

Gyllenhaal had to act in a scene with the slippery co-stars because director Denis Villeneuve refused to add the snakes using computer graphics - and he reveals it was difficult rounding them all up.

He tells WENN, "Everything was done in a controlled way but ultimately there was risk in it and he (Villeneuve) wanted it to be real. The snakes were real and in every single shot they were all around. We had to go searching in the walls of the house afte...
