James Cameron's science-fiction sensation "Avatar" and the war thriller "The Hurt Locker" lead the Academy Awards with nine nominations each, including best picture and best director.

This year the Oscars are featuring 10 best-picture contenders instead of the usual five. The other eight are: District 9, Up, Inglourious Basterds, The Blind Side, Up in the Air, A Serious Man, An Education and Precious.

'Up In The Air,' 'Nine' Lead Golden Globe Nominations

Up in the Air
The 67th annual Golden Globe nominations were just announced in Beverly Hills, Calif., by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

"Up in the Air" leads the pack with six mentions, including best picture, drama. The musical "Nine" ran second with five nominations, including best musical or comedy and acting slots for Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard.

The Golden Globes, Hollywood's second-biggest film honors after the Oscars, will be presented Jan. 17 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, televised live by NBC and hosted by comic actor Ricky Gervais.

In their latest holiday confection, "The Princess and the Frog," the Walt Disney Animation Studios return to their traditional 2D animation roots for the first time since 2004's "Home on the Range." Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, "The Princess and the Frog" is the 49th animated feature film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics line and is set to be released on December 11th. Last Tuesday I had the privilege of seeing Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air" and I have to say, it's a brilliant film. Much like he does in "Thank You for Smoking," Reitman takes a character that has the potential to be very unlikable and makes him sympathetic to the audience.

Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is a man whose career involves laying people off around the country, which is a sensitive subject in America given the current economic state. Disney's 'The Princess And The Frog' Soundtrack Out Now; Listen To It Here!

The Princess and the Frog soundtrack
Multi-platinum, 3-time Grammy Award-winning Def Jam recording artist Ne-Yo adds two new credits to his long list of successes over the last three years, starting with the announcement that his new song, "Never Knew I Needed", will be the featured end credit song in Walt Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" animated motion picture event. The single was blasted out to Urban, Urban AC and Rhythmic radio on October 14th. The soundtrack album will be available November 23rd, and the movie, whose action takes place in New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou, will open in theatres on December 11th.
