Peter Sellers Tops Presidential List

January 20th, 2009 9:23am EST
Peter Sellers
Peter Sellers' portrayal of President Merkin Muffley in cult movie Dr. Strangelove has topped a new list of fictional and real-life U.S. leaders.

Sellers' famous role in the 1964 Stanley Kubrick film beat out Harrison Ford's James Marshall (Air Force One) and Kevin Kline's William H. Mitchell (Dave) in the CNN Inauguration Day countdown.

The only real-life leader to make the list is outgoing U.S. leader George W. Bush, as portrayed by Josh Brolin in W. He comes in at number 10.

Election Movies: When Real Life Campaign Drama Isn't Enough

September 11th, 2008 9:30am EDT
Election
Somehow, if you think that the American political system doesn't have enough pageantry or drama, the only possible place for you to turn are the movies. You can find a campaign movie for just about every level of politics. For the most part, they all tell the same story. You have your candidate, and there's an election going on, and from high school to the presidency, there's going to be a debate on using negative campaigning, a starry-eyed speech about sticking to your ethics, and then some sort of sex scandal. Sounds about right.

Election (1999)

It seems that the chance for a pe...

Films like Magnolia and The Matrix were barred from competition, while films like Down with Love were considered (however, that one didn't make the cut)....

'Charlie Wilson's War'- Momentous But Momentless

December 21st, 2007 10:11am EST
Charlie Wilson
Charlie Wilson was a man who took risks with seemingly no regard to the danger he was placing himself in. He would rather make a joke than admit defeat. Ultimately, when he's resolved to take action, he lowers his head and rams into adversity - crashing down hallways and flying in jet airplanes, unflappable and resolute.

Charlie Wilson's War is no different. Helmed by one of the greatest directors of all time, Academy and Tony award winner Mike Nichols ("The Graduate," "Catch 22," "The Birdcage," "Primary Colors" and Broadways' "Spamalot," "Odd Couple," and "Barefoot in the Park"), the...
