Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Predator'

January 18th, 2013 12:00pm EST
The new Arnold Schwarzenegger flick "The Last Stand" is hitting theaters today and from the clips we’ve seen the big guy is looking a little worn.  (Sorry Arnie – it may be time to hang up the guns and ammo!)  In any case we want to remember the Austrian bodybuilder in the peak of his acting and grunting prowess – so welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick!  Today’s cigar selection isn’t just because of Arnold himself, but everything from memorable music to charismatic characters that cook.  (Under the hot sun no less!)  An elite group of Special Forces soldiers, frenetic hostages, foreign prison...

'Predator: The Musical' is He-ah! Do It! DO IT NOW!

February 24th, 2011 12:26pm EST

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a man of many talents - acting, governance, pumping you up - but carrying a tune has never been his forte...until now. Brothers Jon and Al Kaplan first brought us the musical stylings of Arnold (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) with "Conan the Barbarian: The Musical," which turned the score into a rousing, showtune-style anthem.

Now the brothers Kaplan are taking their swan song bows, and they're doing it in amazing style with "If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It," which transforms Arnold's most Broadway-ready movie, "Predator," into the musical it always want...

Adrien Brody Attempts To Be An Action Star In 'Predators'

July 6th, 2010 12:03pm EDT
Adrian Brody
When you think action star, does Adrien Brody come to mind? Not really. But that's the role he's tackling in the Robert Rodriguez film "Predators," which opens in theaters on Friday, July 9. Also on board: Topher Grace (huh?), Laurence Fishburne and Danny Trejo.

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in the original movie as the leader of a special forces unit. And he was bad ass. The film was an international box office hit and had a sequel starring Danny Glover. In 2004, "Aliens vs. Predator" came out and made nearly $200 million dollars worldwide.

The plot of the latest incarnation involves a h...

A Look At The 'Predator' Franchise

April 20th, 2010 11:10am EDT
Predators 2010
There are few science fiction horror franchises as popular and well known as the Predator series. It came out only a year after James Cameron's equally well received series Aliens began, and the two franchises inspired dozens of films, TV shows, comic books, and horror novels afterward. Man vs. the wild became man vs. an alien creature, and the predator specifically is one of the most terrifying monsters to ever cross the big screen. Intelligent, powerful, and stealthy, the Predator hunts down humans or aliens alike and killing them with a single minded intensity. decided to t...

Hollywood Muscle Guys Who Have Starred In Ridiculous Movie Roles

January 28th, 2010 10:00am EST
Tooth Fairy
Dwayne Johnson's latest movie role as a tutu wearing male Tinkerbell in "Tooth Fairy" is another embarrassment in the long line of embarrassments for Hollywood muscle guys. For some reason, the muscle guys of Hollywood think it's a good idea to go from starring in action movies to starring in Disney kid movies or movies that muscle guys shouldn't be in. Let's take a look at some of the muscle guys who have starred in the most ridiculous movie roles.

Sylvester Stallone

Famous for his movie roles as Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, Sly Stallone is one of the biggest movie muscle guys in Hol...

'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' Recap: Mac And Dennis Break Up

November 13th, 2009 4:00pm EST
Last week's episode of Sunny, with its dick towels and "frame bangs" (a euphemistic Dennis-ism for late night rapes performed for blackmailing purposes, his casual use of which still makes me cringe), started to make me worry that the show might be headed down the wrong path - being raunchy just for raunchiness' sake. While I enjoy a good teabag joke as much as anyone else, crude does not automatically equal funny. (Are you listening, Sarah Silverman?) So, I was relieved to find that this week's episode managed to be one of the funniest this season, while keeping things as close to PG-13 as...

Robert Rodriguez To Reboot Predator

April 24th, 2009 3:24pm EDT
The Predator sci-fi movie franchise is heading back to its roots - by rebooting the original Arnold Schwarzenegger film. The hit 1987 movie was brought back for a second time three years later in Predator 2, with Danny Glover in the starring role.

But the movie monster was borrowed by the Alien franchise in 2004's Aliens vs Predator - combining the deadly creatures from both 1980s films. The mix-up was brought back in 2007 for Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

And now director Robert Rodriguez has announced the series is set to continue with a new solo outing for the dreadlock-sport...

Michael Clarke Duncan Would Love To Battle Predator

February 23rd, 2009 12:53pm EST
Michael Clarke Duncan
With Arnold Schwarzenegger nearing the end of his political career, there's talk of doing another Predator when he returns to filmmaking. Unfortunately, the original Predator actor, Kevin Peter Hall, died after completing Predator 2.

Fans have started to suggest Michael Clarke Duncan to don the laser cannons and Rasta dreadlocks. The Oscar-nominee for The Green Mile, however, would rather fight the monster.

"I would love to battle the predator," Duncan said. "That's what I want. That would be a dream come true for me really. Oh yeah. I love Predator, Predator vs. Aliens. I can wa...

Memorable Acting Performances By Professional Wrestlers

July 30th, 2008 10:44am EDT
The Marine
Ah acting-a craft that stands as one of the finest, and most difficult in the world. Some of our culture's most influential people were actors: William Shakespeare, Ronald Reagan, Yul Brenner, the list is endless, really. Then you have professional wrestling. Pro-wrestling feels a bit like modern gladiatorial combat, except it would drive a Ford F-150 complete with a sticker of Calvin peeing on a Chevrolet in its rear window. You see how these two coincide, right? Sure, it's fair to call wrestlers entertainers. Athletes? Why not? Actors? Eh… Did you guys see The Marine? Neither did we, but ...

Film Feature: Improbable Survivors

Live Free Or Die Hard
Movies are entertainment. We're supposed to suspend our disbelief so we can be entertained and so we don't bog ourselves down in the specifics. In some movies we can do just that - believe - and we can go with the flow. Others provide circumstances that are just too preposterous to take at face value.

Following are some of those movies and characters that I couldn't just forget about and found myself picking apart afterwards. I initially enjoyed each and every one of them, but on further viewing, they were just too much to accept.

Kill Bill Volume 2

There were a lot of scenes i...

'Conan' Franchise Set For A Sequel?

December 18th, 2007 8:39am EST
Predator director John McTiernan has given Conan fans a boost by reportedly signing on to revamp the '80s fantasy action franchise. McTiernan will take charge of long-awaited sequel "King Conan" once his legal woes are over.

The Die Hard director was sentenced to serve four months in a federal prison earlier this year after pleading guilty to making false statements to investigators. He later attempted to retract his plea. McTiernan is free on bail while he appeals his conviction in a case tied to celebrity private investigator Anthony Pelicano.

Carl Weathers Says Arnold Schwarzenegger Is An Egomaniac

October 18th, 2007 5:30pm EDT
Carl Weathers
Action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger is as competitive off screen as he is on, according to his Predator co-star Carl Weathers.

Weathers, 59, - who shot to fame as boxing champ Apollo Creed in Rocky - tells how muscle-bound Schwarzenegger encouraged the cast of 1987 horror movie Predator to compete in "ego"-driven iron-pumping competitions between takes.

He tells, "Arnold and I had a competitive thing going on. He took his whole gym down there, enough weights to kill a giant. All of a sudden guys were getting up at 6 and 4 in the morning, trying to be the first one in there ...

John Cena Wants To Fight The 'Predator'

December 14th, 2006 8:43am EST
John Cena
Wrestling star John Cena is keen to step into Arnold Schwarzenegger's shoes by landing the lead role in the next Predator sequel. The tough guy is the clear favorite to land the role of Oak in "Predator 3," according to Internet film rumors, but he insists no one has called him and offered him the role yet.

Cena is making it easy for the studio executives who may be considering him for the part - he'd love to tackle the Predator.

He tells movie news site, "Everybody's been telling me about that (rumor). I wish somebody from the movie would actually call me about th...
