Japanese Animator Hayao Miyazaki Announces Retirement

Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki has officially announced his retirement.

The animator spoke during a press conference in Tokyo on Friday following up on the announcement his production company Studio Ghibli made earlier this week at the Venice Film Festival.

“I’ve mentioned that I would retire many times in the past, so a lot of you must be thinking ‘Oh, not again,' ” Miyazaki said during the press conference, according to the New York Times. “But this time I am quite serious.”

Acclaimed animator Hayao Miyazaki is retiring from filmmaking at the age of 72.

The 72-year-old Oscar winner's latest film, "The Wind Rises", will be his final film according to Koju Hoshino, president of Miyazaki's animation company, Studio Ghibli.

"Miyazaki has decided that 'The Wind Rises' will be his last film and he will now retire," Hoshino said during a press conference for the premiere of the latest animated feature from the director at the Venice Film Festival.

I finally saw the Sam Mendes dramedy "Away We Go" starring Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski. The film is thoroughly enjoyable with its highs and its lows sharing equal poignancy. It is the perfect hybrid of a drama and a comedy.

Music throughout the film is spot on, appropriate in each instance for the emotions the filmmakers are trying to convey. Rudolph and Krasinski have a wonderful chemistry as husband and wife and engage in hilarious interactions with the other couples in the movie. Krasinski plays the role of Burt with a dopey charm that's hard not to love.
