Josh Brolin Really, Really Likes Johnny Depp, Says 'Thank God He Exists'

September 28th, 2010 8:20am EDT
Johnny Depp
Movie star Josh Brolin feels blessed to be friends with Johnny Depp because the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" star is the best actor alive.

The star and Depp almost fell out when both were up for a lead role on TV show "21 Jump Street" in the mid 1980s - a part Depp eventually landed.

But the two actors have remained friends and Brolin could not be happier for his pal's success.

He tells Playboy magazine, "I have more respect for that guy than for most people out there because he...has done it his own way. He's found whatever his niche is, and it's a big one. What a f**king talent, man. Eve...

Eight World War II Movies To Watch Before 'Inglourious Basterds'

August 18th, 2009 10:40am EDT
The Thin Red Line
With the release of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds Friday, we're excited about what this often-perverse, slightly deranged and mostly genius mind will do with a movie about World War 2's Nazi-occupied France.

Looking back at the movies that Hollywood tackled on the same subject, most have been re-creations of bloody battles or stories of specific personalities involved, but very few ever added the comic punch that Tarantino's flick will surely carry out.

In anticipation of the film, here is a list of World War II films to watch before the release of "Inglorious Basterds" o...

Overrated & Underrated Oscar Winners For Best Picture

February 16th, 2009 9:00am EST
Gladiator
Saying a Best Picture winner is overrated is quite simple. If you think a movie is terrible and it won Best Picture ipso facto it is overrated. But what about an underrated Best Picture winner?

By definition, it should be impossible for a Best Picture winner to be underrated. Why? Because they already won - so their greatness is recognized. It's like having an underrated Hall-of-Famer or underrated Adult Film Award Winner, it should be impossible.

That simply isn't true, however. There are several Best Picture winners that have been completely forgotten over the years, many...

Josh Brolin
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Actors Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright, along with members of a crew filming an Oliver Stone movie, were arrested during a bar fight Saturday morning, police said.

Shreveport police Sgt. Willie Lewis said Brolin, Wright and five others were arrested just after 2 a.m. at a club called the Stray Cat bar.

A call to deal with a rowdy patron drew interference from other patrons, Lewis said.

The Times of Shreveport reported that Brolin was booked and posted $334 cash bond to be released. Police could not say Saturday night whether he or the others had been rel...

Throughout cinematic history, there has been a plethora of actors that, for some reason or another, never become a household name. So here is a cheat sheet of sorts, a brief encyclopedia on "That Guy." Part Two: Letters L-Z. If you missed the first installment, you can check it out here.

Stubborn General or Muslim, Harry Lennix

In Honor Of Memorial Day Weekend: Our Favorite War Movies

May 23rd, 2008 8:30am EDT
Saving Private Ryan
Memorial Day commemorates members of the armed forces who died in war or any military action. Americans often celebrate Memorial Day by watching the Indy 500, going shopping, or having family picnics. Why not spend this Memorial Day thinking about the soldiers who gave their lives to the United States by watching a war film?

The staff here at Starpulse.com got together and came up with a list of some of our favorite war movies. Here they are in no particular order:

Band of Brothers (2001) - Yes, we know it's technically a mini-series, but it's so good we had to include it. The ...

Reverse Typecasting: What Happens When An Actor's Current Role Destroys Past Work

March 26th, 2008 12:02pm EDT
James Gandolfini
Typecasting is an actor's worst nightmare. The last thing a professional wants to happen is getting pigeonholed into the same role time after time following a breakthrough performance. Usually this happens at the beginning of a career, such as the case of Bob Denver. Denver was Gilligan for the rest of his career and essentially the rest his life. In fact, we dare you to think of one role Jim Nabors played other than Gomer Pyle (a prize to anyone who shouted out "Lugs Harvey in Stroker Ace").

In recent years, we have noticed a new phenomenon. In the past it was not as common for actors...

Top Ten 80s Movie Soundtracks

February 28th, 2008 12:27pm EST
Purple Rain
Starpulse recently ran a 'Top Ten 80s Albums' list, in which the inclusion of the Top Gun soundtrack inspired me to come up with a list of the "Top Ten 80s Movie Soundtracks." After doing a little 'freshening up,' both through my own personal collection, growing-up-80's memories and, oh, some website that has info about movies & music and the like, I've narrowed my list down to the top ten.

(And no, "Top Gun" didn't take my breath away and make it onto the list)

The main criteria used here is that only the film had to be released in the 80s, not the music contained on its soundtrack. I...

Charlie Sheen has lost a bid to prevent his ex-wife Denise Richards from including their two daughters in a new reality TV show, after a Los Angeles judge ruled in the actress' favor. The Platoon actor is objecting to letting the former couple's girls, three-year-old Sam and two-year-old Lola, take part in the ex-Bond girl's TV plans.

However after a closed hearing at Los Angeles family court on Tuesday, Commissioner Harvey A. Silberman ruled Richards was allowed to include the kids in the program, subject to a number of rules. The details of which have yet to be released.

Charlie Sheen handed his personal computer to the FBI in a bid to clear his name after ex-wife Denise Richards alleged he viewed images of underage girls on the internet. Former Bond girl Richards, 36, filed papers at Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this month, in which she is seeking "the assistance of the court to obtain orders to protect her children" from Sheen.

In a copy of the filing seen by People.com, Richards accuses the Platoon star of "an attraction to underage women," - and has provided printouts of porn sites he reportedly used during their marriage. However Sheen insi...

However Richards' spokeswoman Jill Fritzo has jumped to the actress' defense, insisting, "The story is untrue." The former nanny alleges Richards is prone to "temper ch...
