'Persepolis' Banned In Lebanon

March 12th, 2008 8:30pm EDT
Persepolis
Oscar-nominated animated movie Persepolis has been banned in Lebanon. Authorities in the Middle Eastern country claim the film, about a young girl growing up during the 1979 Iranian revolution, presents a distorted image of Muslims in Iran.

Lebanese officials say they've banned the movie, which is based on the autobiographical graphic novel by co-director Marjane Satrapi, because they want to avoid potentially offending any pro-Iranian elements in Lebanon, including political and paramilitary opposition organization Hezbollah.

However, Persepolis' distributors Front Row Entertain...

Who Will Win An Academy Award? Check Our Oscar Preview For Our Predictions

February 21st, 2008 2:00pm EST
Oscar heavyweight No Country For Old Men
It's going to happen after all. For months Hollywood was left to wonder whether or not its crown jewel, the Oscars, would even go on. But with the strike resolved and plenty of time left to plan, tinsletown is certain to be completely alight once again this Sunday for yet another four or five or maybe even six hours in heaven.

But what should we expect from the first real movie awards show of the season? Probably some lame jokes, great performances and many upsets since the out-of-work voters actually had a chance to see all the nominees.

Most Anticipated Moment:

This has...

Which Animated Films Will Be Nominated For An Oscar?

January 15th, 2008 4:58pm EST
Bee Movie
It's almost here. The Superbowl of Hollywood (a.k.a. The Academy Awards) will be held for its 80th run on February 24. With the announcement ceremony on January 22, I would like to take a moment to look at one of my favorite categories: Best Animated Feature.

Some real gems have been nominated in this category in the past (i.e. Spirited Away, The Incredibles, The Triplets of Belleville, etc.). For this year's Oscars, there are 12 animated features that have been submitted for consideration:

"Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters," "Bee Mov...

'Sweeney Todd' Wins Two Golden Globe Awards; See Full List Of Winners

January 14th, 2008 8:53am EST
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
Johnny Depp's dark musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street was a double winner at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Depp himself claimed his first Globe after being nominated seven times - he took home gold in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical category and the Tim Burton film was named one of the night's two Best Films.

Acclaimed TV drama Mad Men also celebrated two awards, claiming the Best TV Drama Series and Best TV Actor honors at the Globes.

It was a semi-disappointing night for Kiera Knightley's period drama Atonem...

Golden Globes Ceremony May Be Cancelled But We Still Have Our Predictions

January 8th, 2008 3:17pm EST
Juno
The writers' strike has officially infiltrated awards season. The Golden Globes have been reduced to a lackluster news conference. That means no best and worst dressed list. No boozy celebrities making a fool of themselves. All that remains is an hour-long meeting at the Beverly Hilton Hotel with angry WGA picketers surrounding the premises.

So, until the Hollywood powers-that-be finally buckle down and give the writers what they want and deserve, we here at Starpulse are going to call the winners and losers. We looked at reviews, other expert predictions, viewer attitudes and who we ...

What To Do On Christmas Day... How About Going To The Movies?

December 14th, 2007 10:32am EST
The Bucket List
For some families, there is no greater holiday tradition than Christmas day at the movies. Perhaps they like to enjoy an activity that, due to everyone's busy schedule during the rest of the year, is not as regular an occurrence as they wish. For some, they probably cannot think of another activity that provides something for everyone.

And then, there are those families who are looking for a dark room to pass some of the agonizing together time that is annually forced upon them. For many, it is likely a combination of the three.

At any rate, Tinseltown is well aware of this tr...

Sean Penn Calls For Photographers To Be 'Locked Up'

October 15th, 2007 6:15pm EDT
Sean Penn
Oscar winner Sean Penn hates paparazzi photographers so much he wants to see them imprisoned. The Persepolis star has long harbored a resentment towards the paparazzi - he was once arrested for scrapping with a photographer while dating pop superstar Madonna and was also accused of manhandling members of the press at his brother's funeral in 2006.

But the 46-year-old is unrepentant about his actions.

He says, "I still think photographers should be lashed out at. They should be put in a cage where you can poke them with a stick for a quarter. But not in a hostile way, just for gi...
